Is it worth hanging on to see what 4G deals there are?
My contract runs out in 6 days and I haven't decided what Im going to do yet. I was on the verge of picking a phone and a plan but now Im thinking that with 4G on the verge of being introduced I dont think I should commit to a phone that doesnt let me use these improved speeds. Any advice on what I should do?
Im looking for any advice generally and from people in a similar situation.

I'm in a similar position, contract has 35 days to run. The question I am asking is what will I use it for? I assume it will be an additional cost to any contract, I am a very light user of internet on my phone so not convinced I will use it, anyway, I'm siding towards a rolling monthly sim only deal.
I think only you can weigh up the pros and cons.
Perhaps you go monthly sim only for now, rolling monthly contract, so you have flexibility.0 -
Are you in one of the cities where EE have stated that they will launch their 4G service?0

I'm in the same position, T-Mobile contract ending in 10 days.
Requested PAC, plan to port to giffgaff till i decide what to do.
Definitely want an S3, but thinking if i get a non 4G capable version now, it probably wont be worth much in 2 years time due to the 4G version being around. Wish EE would make an announcement on the date of launch and the S3 LTE release, would help me make a decision...
Dont think i would pay the extra for 4g myself, but thinking that the release of the 4G phones may reduce the price of the current versions?0 -
Im in London so yes I am in one of the cities where there will be coverage.
I didnt think about the cost of the phone come the end of the contract so thats a good point. If I dont decide to go with a 4g phone the prices should come down but perhaps not to any great degree as they still need to recoup the cost of the handset.
I think I will choose a rolling contract. I'm with T-Mobile and I was told they dont know when the announcement will be made but it will be shortly.0 -

There's a meeting today that should help the announcement along http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19786041
I would personally transfer to a one month sim only deal which would keep your options open, also when looking at phones the frequencies for LTE are important, the iPhone 5 will only ever work on EE and 3 (and then only where the 1800MHz band covers) but the Lumia 920 will work on every networks LTE everywhere in the country because it supports 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2600 / 2100 which are all the frequencies that the networks can use in the UK.0 -
I'm in the same boat... i hit the 'upgrade day' last week.. for once phones don't look a massive improvement over 2 years ago. Think i'll go for a £15 giffgaff sim only deal for a few months and watch what EE does to the market place
Is it me or have contract prices shot up over 2 years?
Edit - i've just seen that the HTC One X+ is released soon.. the S3 beater is here!0 -
and the conclusion of that meeting is in http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19804578
so we can expect EEs 4G launch date (and then price) announcements pretty soon0 -
only you can answer this question, although I was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago coming off a TMobile contract
I ported out and went PAYG with a view to seeing what was going to happen
Unfortunately for me I also "needed" a shiny new phone
I had, and still have, concerns that EE havent publicised their 4G tariffs and decided they were unlikely to be a bargain
In the meantime I found an offer on a phone I was seriously considering buying anyway with a deal I just couldnt ignore and Im very happy
If 4G was about to launch nationally with perfect coverage, unlimited data and at a cost of under £30 with a free phone Id have been interested, however as iphone 5's are selling out at £££££ prices even on networks that wont support their 4G function for ages I concluded this was unlikely to happen
good luck0 -
I bet there are two chances of this happening - None and Zilch!iamsporticus wrote: »only you can answer this question, although I was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago coming off a TMobile contract
