Flights to LAX - Average costs ??

Hey all,

Am looking at a Return flights to Los Angeles in preperation for next year...
Plan is to go on the 22nd May, return on the 1st June...
At the mo when looking, i can see return flights from Heathrow with 'Air New Zealand' for £490..

For those that have been a few times, etc, have you ever know the costs to dip as low as £400, or maybe even £450 ???

Overall trip is to fly to LA, then drive to Vegas, and then back, so factoring in all costs, looking to keep it on the downlow as such!!! :)

Air New Zealand are great, given that the taxes alone are £330 it seems a good fare

thats what i'm thinking, it shows as £490 for a direct return flight, compared to others, does seem super good.

I'm stuck between just doing a normal 10 day holiday to Vegas, or trying to get a cheaper flight to Los Angeles, spend 1 night in Big Bear Lake, then drive to Vegas in the morning in the slow mustang hire car :):)
or flight to LAX, but return flight from Las Vegas... (that flight cost is £551...)

Air New Zealand are my favourite airline. This is a GREAT fare. I'd snap it up..

The drive from LA to Vegas is "only" 4 or 5 hours. But it'll seem like 10 in a mustang :)

haha, had the Mustang last year in Florida, agree its slow!! :) but i'll get a sun tan on my drive to Vegas! :D:D

Think i am gonna wait now until January to book flights, as my idea is once Xmas is out the way, airlines do a sale for 2 weeks when most peeps are broke.. (thats how i remember it last year anyway).... so hoping the same happens, and return flights to LAX go for under £450 :):)

This June 2012 I got a return LHR-LAX for £522 by buying it in September 2011. This was only for Virgin though.

Never saw it any lower on the VS site. even during their January "sale"

All flights into\out of LAS are more expensive due to it being a "holiday" destination.

Not seen a £400 or £450 fare to LAX for a while.

There was that £262 mistake fare a while back :)

and a BA c*ck up that had MSe's jetting to Hong Kong for almost "nowt" :D

so always worth keeping an eye out for bargains

If you can afford to "faff" about then look at HotUKdeals as Alitalia have some serious cheap fares + discount codes IF you don't mind globe hopping for while

    cheers for the info :)
cant do faffin about for this holiday :)
Idea is to build a picture on prices as they are now, then see if there is room to knock £££ off certain parts of the trip.. Even if we saved only £40, its still a saving....
I guess the £490 with Air New Zealand is a good deal then!!
However, decided to hang in there until early January before we book anything :)
    cheers all

Be careful though, prices may start moving the other way as well. That said, I don't think it's a bad idea to wait for the after-christmas sales.

January is possibly the worst time to book flights for the summer. People will have got Christmas and New Year out of the way, will be suffering cold dark nights and will start thinking of booking their summer holidays.

Personally, at £490 for a direct flight I'd be booking it now. I would say that the price is more likely to go up than down. You might be able to save a little more with a stopover on the east coast but, trust me, it's not worth the hassle - doing coast to coast in the US in a domestic flight is no fun at all.

get cash back for Air New Zealand http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/bri1 when you book you may as well.

I paid £900 In August just gone on Virgin to LAX within 10 days of going, so don't wait until later as the prices do go up, the day before I went they were nearly £1500.
