    The problem is the deficit.

If the government don't get more income from the bridge, where should they get more income from or what should they cut?

Sorry but you apologists make me want to throw up, they will take this money and waste it like they did before which is what got us in the deficit.

Money to defence budget, money to bankers for false promises, money towards whitewashed 'investigations', a fortune paid out to private companies not delivering, money for politician expenses with only 2 or 3 politicians scapegoated for criminal charges.

If they started charging suicidal bridge jumpers for each failed attempt for 'use of the bridge' i suppose that is also fine? Because you know we have a deficit.

How about a tax on the air we breath? Disgusting.

You think that's bad, imagine going through the tolls, seeing the whacking great big Range Rover in front of you getting charged as a car, then pulling up to the barrier in my little corsavan and getting charged twice as much!

Started using the autotolls after that :D
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Even if you use the crossing infrequently there is the incentive to sign up for the Dart Tag - £2 v £1.33.

The problem is that the tunnel/bridge uses up an inordinate amount of resources in terms of maintenance/safety/policing. For example as an A Road the crossing has to provide for cyclists who get carried over free of charge. Then there is the escorting of tankers through the tunnel.

It shouldn't use any more resources than any other road or tunnel, it's a cash cow pure and simple.
They should get rid of the booths and throw it open.

Mind you have you seen the price of the M6 toll road - phew!

I remember the promises of it eventually being free once paid for.

It is ridiculous, most of the hold ups are because of paying.

Like most charges on the motorist, they are not truthful, they are just a way to get easy money.

Of course it uses more resources than any other road or tunnel! Every cyclist is carried over free of charge 24/7. Every tanker is escorted through 24/7 - there are umpteen fuel/gas/chemical depots in the estuary.

Get a Dart Tag. Mind you the charge is going up on that from £1 to £1.33.

Do you have to make a monthly payment or can you just set up with £10?

8 out of 10 for hyperbole.

A slightly weak start, attacking the un-named 'apologists' and claiming they make you want to throw up. The whole 'makes me sick' is so cliched now. But a good recovery into blaming both bankers and MPs expenses.

Then a particularly impressive use of a straw man argument about charging suicides. Excellent work there, but slightly let down on the weak concept of an air tax. The closing 'Disgusting' invokes echoes of 'of Tunbridge Wells' which I don't think was the desired effect.

Overall, you do a very job concealing your only argument of "things I use should be free, other people ought to pay for things they use", so you can be proud of your work.
  • Cant understand the logic of the Dartford crossing. Have toll gates which cause holdups so they want to build a new crossing, with tolls, to reduce holdups. Has it never occurred to then that remove the tolls and there would be no hold up?
I dont agree with this - you seen the Blackwall tunnel on a morning? No toll yet its backed up for miles in each direction
