As for Asda quality v Tesco quality, I have always found Tesco veg pretty rubbish to be quite honest. Most of it goes manky within a week kept in the fridge, since changing to Asda, the same stuff keeps a week or more in the same fridge.
As for smartprice stuff being vile, I can't believe some people really believe this! You will find a lot of the value/smartprice type ranges are packed in exactly the same factories with exactly the same products in exactly the same tins.
As for bacon, I find the same applies to ALL supermarket value and standard bacon. The premium ones at all supermarkets tend to be better, yes you do tend to get what you pay for, but I don't find Tesco bacon any better or worse than Asda's.
I've been in some rank stores of all companies. What I do like about Asda is if a product is on promo I can buy one say at £1. In Tesco it stays at £2 and is BOGOF. I don't necessarily want two, I'd rather have the choice of buying the one or stocking up. Half price is better than same price but BOGOF.
Ultimately we all have our preferences. I find Tesco dull and uninteresting. Asda I find more enjoyable and the staff are indeed much friendlier in my local store, but again you can find exceptions to every rule. Tesco CS are often truly horrible - rude, disbelieving, grudging and miserable. That's my general experience but there are exceptions everywhere which people can seize on to say otherwise.
You see I find the opposite on the veg to you and have you tried smartprice NICE biscuits or custard creams or chosen by you sauce for spare ribs or chosen by you patisserie cream all are RANK!!! and their to name just a few.
Tesco's dont use the same factories as Asda infact being the biggest employer in the UK with some 270,000 employees and fingers in every pie they have a strict quality control over who makes their branded products aswell as exclusivity with those suppliers.
Upto last year Tesco Value Brown sauce was infact Hammonds of Yorkshire Chop Sauce, exactly the same product just a different bottle and its awesome although I now have to buy the Hammonds chop sauce from Morrisons the only place that sells it.
One thing I will agree with you on is customer service although of late I have had a fair few £10 gift cards from Tesco customer service.
I have had wombled APG's snatched and ripped apart from my hands by a night manager because I tried to use 4 apgs totalling about £20 and the manager was called over who said I must have a lot of credit cards as each receipt had a different card number on. (None of her business!) she put all the vouchers and receipts on the counter and when I went to pick them up she said oh no were keeping these but I had grabbed them and that when she played a tug of war with me. Then called the security over and told him to take an image of me and circulate it to all local asdas.
I contacted asda customer service who got very nervous about what I told them especially as I had been advised that what she did amounted to attempted aggrevated theft. I was assured an image would not be taken and distributed they contacted the store general manager and the night manager later the next day and I was told I would be hearing from the manager in the next few days with a letter of apology and a substantial gift card had been suggested by Asda Corporate - I GOT NOTHING and never have!
Asda even tries not to give you the £2 gesture of goodwill giftcard if they can get away with it and thats after over charging you in the first place.
Tesco will give you double the difference of the over charge and if a product is bad they will refund and replace it and if you give them your clubcard you will get an apology letter along with a £10 giftcard0 -
