My boss is putting my job at risk.

My boss (line manager) is putting my job at risk. It takes two or more people to complete the scheduled work per shift. There is usually a girl with me, but she is off with a bad back. This is the second week I am working on my own doing cleaning the entire gymnasium (except the female changing rooms). It is the size of a large factory so lots of hoovering.

The middle management bosses are obnoxious bullies meticulous on cleanliness and if they see a single piece of paper on the floor they will come to however is working and question it.

This happened to me some days ago and now I have been punished for it, with a review and an extension on my probabation period for an extra three months. No work contract with a threat of termination if "I don't improve". Yes! It's utter rubbish. :(

So I'm still working on my own and some time this week the middle management megalomaniacs will come for a visit. I can't bare for those Nazis to talk to me again. I'm sure to say something untowards.

What can I do? My boss doesn't listen to me; to any of my work colleagues who do the night shift. The HR department are uninterested. I am with no union. My boss is only doing what she is told, but she is putting my job at risk. It is already at risk but she is not helping.

I have made an audit of all the things that have happened since I started here in August. I am a hard worker but now I feel demotivated.

The morale is low. I have no pride in my work anymore, and every shift is long and dragging. Smilling at people when I feel unahppy is becoming unbareable.

I know. I know. Get another job, I hear you say. I'm doing that already but I've sent dozens of CVs off and nothing.

I hope so. It was taken out of context. The majority of replies were from people who seemed to believe in this ridiculous notion that they had a right not to be offended. Trolls.

Your boss isn't putting your job at risk. You are.

In the first instance, do what is asked of you, politely and helpfully, and to the best of your ability.

If you can think of more efficient ways of doing things, put these suggestions forward in a positive and proactive manner.

If you have issues with the way the company is being managed, handle them diplomatically and professionally following any relevant procedures that are in place.

But ultimately, remember that it's the employers role to tell the employee what to do, rather than vice versa.

To be honest, it just sounds like you've got a bit of an attitude problem.

People are bullies and nazis for paying you as a cleaner, but being unhappy that the place isn't clean?

Did you raise the lack of staff when they did the review? What did they say? Presumably, they didn't think you not having a cleaning buddy was the reason you were performing poorly, otherwise they wouldn't have extended your probation...and I suspect it isn't...you say yourself you've no pride in your work - it probably shows.

    Spot on!

If there's a speck of dust in my office on a Monday morning, there are consequences. You're being paid to do a job, management need the company to earn to feed themselves, therefore you should ensure that the job is done properly.

CK - fair enough - but if it genuinely takes two to do the job to a high enough standard then there is a problem. What do you expect her to do? Work longer hours unpaid?

OP - Unfortunately they can sack you for any reason within 2 years so the advice I'd give doesn't really work here - which is to write to advise you are doing the best you can but can't cover everything in the time.

You have to assume people are kinda reasonable about these things, though. The OP had a review with them about the problems....like I said before, surely they would have been made aware that a single person was doing two people's jobs and made allowances for that fact.

Or, of course, it may just be that they're the nazi, megalomanic bullies the OP thinks they are...

edit: in either case, though, you'd think OP would run around and make sure the place *looks* clean at least each day, just for an easy life...

I would expect her to work unpaid to get the job done. Not enough people with commitment these days. She is lucky to have a job.

Hmmm. Perhaps you haven't read what I wrote? The shift requires two or more people to complete. One person cannot do it and do it all and keep it clean till finish. The management are not interested in what I have to say.

Hmmmm. Perhaps you don't understand? I'm being bullied by the exec' bosses. I believe that they are obnoxious because they bloody well are, and it's not just me that thinks it. Please tell me how on Earth does having that opinion make me have an attitude problem?

I have raised the lack of staff at least 5 times. She knows that there needs to be two people to complete the schedule. They thought I was performing poorly because I didn't get everything done - in fact I did get everything done, I just keeping keep on top of things because the schedule requires two people.

I have no pride in my work because of what happened.

Please, please, please, read what I wrote in the OP before replying. Please.
