Replacing back boiler with combi

We have a back boiler with a gas fire. Also there is a tank in the airing cupboard in one of the bedrooms upstairs. There is also a gas cooker in the kitchen. I would like to replace the back boiler with a combi boiler. I am in East Anglia area. My questions are as follows:
1. Where is the easiest and cheapest location to install the new combi boiler(in the airing cupboard or in the kitchen)?
2. For the sake of saving cost, what is the cheapest way to cut off or cap the old back boiler?
3. How much will the whole work cost including materials?
4. How long will it take to complete the work?
5. Do I get any guarantee for the boiler and labour? if yes, how long would it be in general?
6. Should I use British Gas to carry out the work as I am with them on Homecare package and it will come with a free loft insulation and some discounts? Has anyone used them before for such work?
Thanks a lot.:j

I'll try and answer as best i can so we'll get this one out of the way off the top.
Price:-
Short answer to the cost is, how long is a piece of string.
We don't know the size of the property, gas run location, current boiler output, number of bathrooms, water flow rate from mains, etc.
Something i can tell you is that British Gas will, in all honesty, be the most expensive quote you get (almost guaranteed).
My suggestion to you is get at least 3 or 4 quotes from Local RGI's (gas safe) and let them guide you to some extent but explaining exactly what your requirements are.
A survey may show that your property, water flow rates and lifestyle isn't suited to a Combi but needs a System or Regular Boiler instead.
Is there a reason it has to be a Combi in your mind?
Warranties:-
There are several boilers on the market at the moment that come with 5 or 7 year Parts and Labour warranties subject to correct installation and annual servicing (Worcester Bosch & Vaillant spring to mind).
There will be others as well that have similar offerings.
Location:-
Will be dependent on where the most convenient gas run is and obviously venting the boiler externally.
Hope some of that helps, probably raises more questions to be honest.0 -
Doing the same thing, all quotes have been very similar at approx £2.5k and that's with excellent boilers will long parts and labour guarantees and includes new piping from meter to boiler in the back bedroom upstairs as it was gas before.
Go with a local recommended installer.0 -
Why do you want a combi...?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I want combi boilers because my house only use boiler hot water to wash the dishes and take one bath every 6 months (shower the rest of the time).
Boiling a whole tank of water every day to use 10L to wash up after dinner seems criminal.0 -
Don't forget that you can still have a new back boiler, if the upheaval of moving the pipework and gas supply is significant then this could be a good thing.
British Gas and other companies may tell you that you can't have a new back boiler, or that they are banned or illegal, but this is lies.
Here is a condensing back boiler designed for direct replacement in a hearth (although I think it may be a system rather than a combi, so perhaps not what you are looking for).
Sorry I can't post links, so Google "baxi bbu he"0
