yep resetting the router will clear any changes anyone else and you have made since you cannot log into the router yourself now then resetting the router will allow you to login and secure the router.
the routers password is to prevent people changing the settings of the router, to prevent people using your internet you need to use a wireless passkey (that's why you choose the WPA2-PSK options)
before you reset the router download the manual from the link above and also make sure you have an ethernet cable so you can plug the computer into the router via wire.0 -
thanks, why do i have to make sure "ethernet cable so you can plug the computer into the router via wire" can i just not reset router, make new password and then do the ssecuring thing?0

It's just so you can create/change the WiFi passkey (secure the network) without having to reconnect halfway through the process.
You don't have to do it wired but you will need to have written down the new PSK you set before pressing save as you will need to reconnect to the router at that point.
it's up to you, if you get locked out for any reason you can always reset the router and start again no problem.0 -
Thanks, will try all this tomorrow, got banging headache trying to work out how i have to do it all

has anyone changed the admin password, since it was purchased, if not, it will be the default.
what username/ password have you tried.
the wireless network key which protects your signal from being used by someone else is completely different from the router admin password.!!

if you need any help while resetting it the manual has the steps to setting up the router, and at any point you can't get access, connecting via wire will get you access to the router and the internet.0

It's quite likely that one of the [STRIKE]little scrotes[/STRIKE] interlopers who have logged onto the wifi signal have then accessed the admin pages and changed the password. How do I add a signature?0 -
i changed it a while back, i'm not sure if i'm putting it in wrong or what but it just says denied or something, i'm gonna reset it all tomorrow, and try and secure the network.has anyone changed the admin password, since it was purchased, if not, it will be the default.

In case it isn't clear yet, there are TWO passwords you need to worry about.
The first is the administrator password you need to log in to the router to change its settings.
The second is the password (or wireless key) you need to connect to the router via WiFi. This is used in conjunction with encryption, such as WPA2 (as previously mentioned).
Changing the first, but not the second, only stops people fiddling with your router settings - it doesn't stop them using your internet connection for free.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
