Hi looking to get my Gad & Electric meter boxes repaired.

Tried asking Utility supplier but they said its my property and my responsibility.

Anyone know of a company that does this?...

They are correct, the meter enclosures are the responsibility of the property owner. You don't need a 'company' to do it. You can buy them at some sheds or online, and anyone can fit them.
It's little more than a tin box with a door on the front.

Hi I tried asking them but they just offer to repair it with non standard parts. I want like for like original Parts.

Searched the Web and have located a Company in Glasgow called 'Call The Tradesmen' that offer a repair service. Got them coming out tomorrow to take a look....

Will post again if they are worth a Look See..

As I said, it's a tin box, the only possible 'parts' on it are a replacement door. Why does it matter what the origin of the part is?

Are you talking of the typical plastic box outside your property that helps keep the meter protected?

If so, any minor repair would probably be made with plastic padding.
But I would just go for an entire new box if it's that badly damaged.

What's the problems with the boxes?
  • If it's a plastic box like pictured above the only 'real' repairs that can be done are a new latch and new hinges. Both easily done yourself with a repair kit off ebay for £2-3.
  • just google meter box repairs there are dozens of sites that sell replacement doors and parts...
  • Meterbox.co.uk ( Moorlands ) seem to have everything eg, full meterbox £35. Box failure starts with latch breaking, which allows door to flap itself off its hinges which then break and we have found them difficult to repair. New hinge pins and latches are cheap from ebay but try fibreglassing over the new hinge pins to keep them in place if the hinge sides are broken. People can get success for small compensations if they hassle the supplier enough and the meter reader can be found to be at fault

This is never "found" but may be reasonable on balance of probability. And cheaper that a full complaint.

After all most or many posters here can't be *rsed to read their meter or take firm enough action to gain access to a locked room containing their meters so cannot possibly be to blame.

    OK I exagerate slightly.

Is the fault that caused the the flimsy latch catch to depress still common.?
