Which new lawn mower?

I currently have a Flymo hover 300 mower but it's a bit small for doing my back lawn. Should I really use the word lawn as it's a green grassed area which has seen better days due to children playing on it:rolleyes:

I'm looking at this one in Argos which is at.gifSpear and Jackson 1400w Rotary Mower.

My lawn is not totally level but is reasonably flat. Size wise it's about 25ft wide by 75ft long.

Thanks

  • Buy a petrol mower ! cut that lot in 20 mins; honestly ! ( you will need a shed to store it though ) you can adjust the cutting height, like a vacuum cleaner, for bumpy ground. At one time these were very expensive, but can be picked up for around £120 if you shop around,

No, they are not smelly things !
  • Forgot to mention, your link for argos does'ent work !

We did think about getting a petrol one but couldn't really see the advantage over the electrical one as we would have to store petrol in the garage.

I have both and prefer to use the wee leccy one? Coz the petrol one is so heavy! Mind you much of my grassed area (could never describe my dandelions and mossy greenery as a lawn) is sloping ....nightmare keeping it from running a way going down and heaving your way pushing it back up! Never mind the yanking to get it started!!!

Also .....I bought a cheapy petrol one from argos and its impossible to buy spares for it! So do check out spares etc before you buy (which ever it is!)

Husband went off to b+q on Friday to buy a petrol mower to replace the qualcast electric one. After looking at the lot he came back with a bosch electric one, rotak 40gc. It is lighter than the petrol models and cuts very long grass. His love of mowing is not that great so sometimes the grass was too long really for our mower, hence its early demise.

Anway, he mowed the lawn in the afternoon and said it was great. I think I should look willing and get mowing soon. Think our back lawn is about the same size as yours, then we have a small front lawn too. Your link worked for me ok and I must admit we paid £139 for our mower so more than the argos one. But as I said chose it as this new one will cut very long grass, it states 30 cm more than enough, proves it has a strong motor.

I agree with getting a petrol one, our Flymo 300 compact met it's maker at the end of last season so I got a Honda Izy self propelled mower, best £260 I have spent in a long time, Very easy to mow the lawn now, wish I had got it years ago - will never go back to trailing leads and hover mowers.

I brought a Petrol Izy self propelled after my Flymo 330 went to great lawn in sky, and was really impressed with the Honda. Takes around 30 mins now 100x25....well worth the £234 I paid in Costco......
