I know the e-mail is meant as a security check but other people have had phone calls to report "unusual transactions", (as have I in the past but for genuine transactions). I'm just surprised these people were allowed to change all my details and set up the cash account and transfer so easily.

They then send out an authentication code to your home address.

    hi tomsco

If they had sent out the auth code to my address the fraud couldn't have taken place. The con would have had to get the auth code sent to them in some fraudulent way. I think this is where tesco are going wrong.

when i finally got some attention from tesco, they said the delay was because thay had mountains of fraud cases to deal with, which sounds like their security is not tight enough.

then they send me new cards through the post, that are already activated and ready to use - stunning !!!!

I have also been a victim of this but I was already using online banking.

Basically someone logged on to my account, changed all my details (including log in details) and transferred £900 to a money transfer account they'd set up.

I only found out when I received e-mails from Tesco Bank saying my log in details had been changed, then another e-mail to say the money transfer account had been said up, then another one saying £900 had been transferred - all within 2 minutes of each other. I had to phone Tesco Bank - no alert flagged up which is worrying. My account is now frozen and I have to wait for their fraud investigation department to contact me. :(

The attack on my account took place in early October, but the amount transferred was much larger! I contacted Tesco Bank within 12 hrs of the event but they allowed the transfer to proceed although I was told it would be stopped! It took several phone calls and days to gain access to my 'new' on-line account and then a further 2 weeks before my account was adjusted to return the money together with the charges and interest that had accrued.

I was also sent replacement cards for the new account that were already activated! When I questioned this with Tesco Bank they said that all cards are now sent out this way by all banks!

I have now adjusted my new account profile to send me an e-mail whenever the balance reaches an unrealistic amount which, hopefully, will warn me of any unauthorised use much earlier!

This has just happened to us. We are registered for online banking and I went on to check the balance, I thought it looked high and then spotted a £1,700 money transfer from the week before. We had not received any emails or phone calls and the account was still active. Tescos were rung, we were told to cut up the cards and they will get back to us in 7-10 days.
I am just about to ring them again as our statement date is today and I don't know what to do about payment as a dd is set up to pay the whole amount at the end of the month.
