Tesco clubcard credit card fraud

Hi
new to forum, just to try and see if anyone else is having a problem with Tesco credit card fraud.
Have had the card for a year or so no problem, then last Tuesday was called to tell me that someone had gone online and registered my card onto the Tesco online banking (I had not done previously), and had changed all my details, added a "money transfer account" and tried to transfer £1300. As far as i can see, to register with online banking they would have needed my card number , name , DOB etc.
Tesco were quick to contact and stop the card, which was good, but they promised to call within 24 hrs. Over last week, I have called them twice since and they wont put me through to the team dealing with the fraud. Still no contact nearly a week later.
What worries me is that my sister-in-law has had the exact same thing on her Tesco card, and was guessing if there had been a leak of a batch of tesco card details, that scammers are now working their way through, picking off anyone who has not registered to online banking.
Anyone else ?
Thanks for any help

Possibly. Or possibly a shared acquaintance of both you and your sister in law. Impossible to know, as fraud happens on cards of types on a daily basis.0 -

Do you live in the same area? Shop in the same places?
Remember it is not the retailer that is the issue. It is the people that work and take the details.:mad:Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
hi
we dont shop same places, but about 10 miles from each other, different names on cards so wouldnt show up as linked in anyway.
it was more that we both hadnt registered for online banking, and that was the way into the fraud.
do you think its good advice to ensure everyone registers, and then the online account is locked with your own password ?
the fact that tesco still havent come back to me after a week, tells me they are very busy with something, maybe a lot of similar issues?0 -
I would not take the lack of callback as anything other then they have no further information to pass on.
My best guess is that as you are both in the same area. You have at some point used the same location. Where someone has been taking details.
TBH. Either way do not expect to be told how this has happened. As that will be information that could tipp off someone.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Hi Pete,
My tesco card (safely in my wallet) was used early Sept to buy £2k worth of goods, so you're not alone. I'm from Oxfordshire if that helps?
I'm convinced it was details stolen from a self service till at Tesco, but can't prove it.
I can also confirm that I still haven't had the form you need to sign to confirm it wasn't you transaction and when I called I was told that they are working through mountains of cases.
Cancelling card as soon as this is resolved, don't want clubcard points that much!
Thanks. There is no wealth but life. Life, including all its powers of love, of joy, and of admiration (John Ruskin)0 -
hi
tesco finally came back to me and have cancelled card etc.
the fraud was made by someone getting my details and registering for online banking, which i hadnt done.
I asked what pieces of info they needed to register for online banking
1 card number
2 first/last name
3 my date of birth
4 postcode
and that was it, which seems a bit light on identifying me as the actual person registering.0 -
Only item 3 would be an issue, but with folk happily handing out their DoB to social networks and for other spurious reasons, a little digging on the web is all it takes. I give out DoB's, but they're not mine, and I change them with each new supplier. They get what they think they need, and I get peace of mind.0

Not forgetting the genealogy sites which hand out birth certs left right and center.
Often see card fraud to these sites. Now everyone knows why....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

They then send out an authentication code to your home address.0 -
I have also been a victim of this but I was already using online banking.
Basically someone logged on to my account, changed all my details (including log in details) and transferred £900 to a money transfer account they'd set up.
I only found out when I received e-mails from Tesco Bank saying my log in details had been changed, then another e-mail to say the money transfer account had been said up, then another one saying £900 had been transferred - all within 2 minutes of each other. I had to phone Tesco Bank - no alert flagged up which is worrying. My account is now frozen and I have to wait for their fraud investigation department to contact me.0
