    Thank you JC9297,

I will look to do that after chatting to the JC today.

I still will need entertaining for a month though, any ideas?

    :D

Why chat? Honestly, just bang in 2 applications/week for the duration, sign on the two times you have to and when you start, complete the last page and sign off.

It's not fraud if you are still applying and looking for part time jobs.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

This is a really nice site for sewing tutorials that require very little set up: http://www.sewmamasew.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=3lu9tnnvv1k0j1nm5hr6s2k5l3;www
Im just learning now (wish I had listened to mum before I lost her.She did anything from Bra's to Ballgowns and Im pretty sure we never had any money;))

What about volunteering at a charity shop?Good way to keep busy and you could look out for things like sheets, tablecloths and duvet covers to turn into allsorts of lovely things. Especially if you have been flying-I know the urge you get afterwards to "decorate".

Also have a look at your library, they might need readers for story time...and local retirement homes-either to read to those hard of sight,or play a board game. When my DH first came back to the UK and was waiting for the kids and I to arrive,he would go down the local home to play chess and scrabble with the residents.

It's absolutely fine to keep getting JSA until the day before you start work.

I got made redundant in February and found a job in April to start in September. As soon as I received the job offer, I told the job centre that I have a job starting in September and they just added it to my notes. I then kept going in twice a month and looking for temp jobs. (By the time it got to July, they were hinting to just relax and not bother looking for jobs).

Take up a new hobby until you start work.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I was wondering if any of your friends need help with tasks? On our to do list is lots of home decorating as well as some heavy duty gardening ( pulling out an old hedge and replanting a new one). I would gladly pay a friends travel and kep 'em fed for a hand for a while!

Anything in the loft/wardrobes need sorting or selling? Any paperwork to file or insurances to do a search on and see if you can save money?

Maybe do some batch cooking ready for when you're back at work? Or foraging to make pickles, like late plums, apple chutneys, they can also form part of someone's Christmas present in a hamper?

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • How about contacting National Trust to see if there are any jobs voluntary or paid to fill your time. They often do craft courses you could offer to be a spare hand.

The volunteers board will have plenty of things for you to get involved in, why not contact your local one, the council should have details if you can't google them.

Why not plan what you are going to buy people for Christmas, so you can buy them when money comes in.

Make some Christmas cards, so you don't need to buy them.

Volunteer at your local school listening to the children read.

    So many possibilities.
  • Many, if not all of the suggestions for charity work in the space of a month are not really feasible IMO - they take time to set up, can require application forms and interviews, however informal, and quite a few may require RCB checks, which takes weeks.
Also, it is asking a lot for a charity to train someone, for them to leave the following week. Having some unknown person along as 'a one off helping hand' when you have never met them before can be a real burden on other voluntary staff or paid staff as they have to spend time monitoring them and checking they are not derailing your project with incorrect information/behaviour. This is fine if they are going to be around for 6 months, but not once or twice.

How about contacting the NT and or your local wildlife groups to see if they have any volunteer conservation groups you can join. Thse sort of thing you can just turn up and get stuck in with clearing gorse etc. They can be great fun and is being very useful.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
