eBay - misleading listings

I have not bid on anything, so no real loss as such, but I find it so annoying when people don't list things accurately.
I am searching for star wars lego for YS Christmas box. Obviously looking for a bargain, which is not easy to come by as just about every young lad wants the same stuff. I have read so many listings, thought Ohhhh that's good, only to see at the end- often in smaller font BOX ONLY!!! or instructions only
Grrrrrr .......like I want to buy the box or instructions without the toy!!! Most especially the instructions, since you can download them free from the Lego website!!!!!
Ok, rant over!

People have been stung for serious sums of money with scams like this. Long detailed listings for expensive mobile phones with a tiny piece of text stating that it's for the box only.
I can't remember off hand what fleabay's attitude to these was but I dare say you could find out on the appropriate board. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Agreed - was having this conversation last night when I spotted a BlueRay film I wanted at a very good price. I scrolled to the very bottom on the listing to read "This is really for the DVD - I posted the wrong picture" - yer right!!!!0

Luckily I make sure I thoroughly read the descriptions, as the other annoying trick they do with lego is to open the kits and sell the minifigures individually, thus leaving the kits without a key part! I can understand why they do this, as the figures can fetch megabucks on their own, but I know YS would be very upset not to have the figures.Getting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

I agree.
I was looking for a Nintendo DSi in new condition only so I selected that option.
You wouldn't believe how many people think that 'new' means "I've only used it a couple of times". :mad:0 -
I recently sold a 'boxes only' item on ebay and was a little nervous as it got a ridiculous amount of bids.
I mentioned that it was 'boxes only' in the title and twice in the listing. It went for an extraordinary amount of money for what it was but the buyer was delighted.
I suppose my point is that 'packaging only' does sell on ebay, but it needs to be made very clear in the listing.0 -

I wouldn't mind if it was in the item description or first line of additional info. I can see there may be occasions when people want a box - it sounds like you were very fair, sadly not every ebayer is as honestGetting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

The buyer might have been needing a box for an old toy or collectable figure or something, knowing that most collectors will pay more if it's in its box. The buyer could then sell it on and make a profit. As long as you keep on being honest and telling people it's box only and they're willing to buy them then go for it. You're obviously a good money saving expert. :T0 -

Exactly. Honest buyers make it clear what is for sale.
Just out of interest, was the lego listed in toys and games, or in packaging and boxes? There might be an argument to report the listing and misleading if it's in toys and games since a box isn't...
... although most parents will tell you they get played with a lot more than the toy.
