I too have recently been hoodwinked by the Shopper Discount scam. I booked a concert ticket on the Seetickets site. They already have my debit card details as I have used them on several occasions in the past. I accepted the £10 discount on my next ticket purchase which must have linked me to the SD site. Fortunately I keep a close check on my bank account and when the £10 payment was taken I investigated further. I have just spoken to someone at SD and they have cancelled my membership and I have a confirmation email to advise that the £10 will be refunded over the next 10 days. I have also contacted my bank who have advised that they will only get involved on my behalf if SD try and take any further money from my account. I will update this in 10 days time!0

No you haven't been scammed. You made the mistake of not reading exactly what you were signing up to.
Easily done. I use Premier Inns a lot and always book online. Last year I noticed the 'get £10 of your next booking' message so thought I would have a look. The second I saw they wanted my credit card details I re-read the information and didn't go any further. I did email PI with my concerns regarding the slightly devious link
Why would they need my cc details if they were going to give me a discount? Not as if they were going to send me the money. And if they were surely they would want the details of my bank account.
It is very easy to get caught up in this so-called discount lark, who doesn't want to save money.
You have to be very careful before entering any financial details.
On a plus note I am sure there are previous threads on here where the person signing up has had there money refunded and the 'service' cancelled
I too nearly got caught until it asked for my card details, which I thought was odd as I was only reserving the item (an iron) for collection the next day.
Needless to say on reading the fine print I decided not to continue & took my business elsewhere as I found the item cheaper somewhere else.0 -
Also beware of Vistaprint and their surveys etc, they do similar things.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Just to add, Shoppers Discount can be a money making opportunity. If you sign up, then claim for your initial cashback (£20), then another cashback for that month (£10), they will send you cheques for £30. If you cancel within a month, then you will not have to pay anything, so £30 for nothing other than a bit of admin.
You need receipts to claim the cashback, so 3 receipts from Argos for example.
I signed up to this a few months ago and had no problems with it. My husband also did this and we've now had all 4 cheques and not paid a penny. It's when you don't realise what you've signed up for and don't cancel it within a month that you get into problems.
They also offer £25 gift cards for £20, I ordered 2 for B&Q and Argos for wedding presents. So there are some benefits to these schemes, but only if you keep a very close eye on the T&C and make sure you cancel it within the deadlines.
NB I don't work for them and am in no way connected with them, just wanted other money savers to see how you can make a few quid out of them. They obviously rely on people signing up, not cancelling and not claiming their cashback but for organised people you can play them at their own game.0
