When you join the real world, that is where working people pay far more and actually sort themselves out rather than rely on the council, you will see that any comment you make (the OP) is laughable.

It's made even more funny if you drink or smoke. I'll wait for someone to ask before I go into the reasons why.

How dare you. I can barely afford my 2 bottles of vodka and 40 cigarettes a day before Gordon Brown put the tax up! How far do you think my Disability Allowance goes?

Why would you work your rent out by dividing by 51?

There are 52 weeks and 1.25 days in a year (approximately). I think your mathematics are at fault rather than the council when working out this supposed "discrepancy".

what i'm trying to say is that the council are trying to hide the fact that they are letting us think we are paying less than what we are!! .. i'm not complaining about the rent going up!!!!!!!!!!!! they say all this hidden money so to speak just comes back into the council revenue:rolleyes: and then comes back to us:rotfl: when?????????????/:mad:

and yeah i wouldnt mind the council paying me to live here:rotfl: :rotfl:

I think you are fighting a losing battle here! All that people can see is that you are complaining about living in a cheap house.

Dividing by 51 is probably the number of weeks that rent is charged in a year. There may be 53 weeks in the financial year but if the council grants 2 rent-free weeks then it is down to 51 weeks that rent is payable. HA that I work for has a rent-free week at Christmas and end of financial year.

Council tenants don't live in the real world? Council tenants don't work? Council tenants can't sort themselves out?

    Whatever.

Let me get this straight. OP is complaining about a rent rise because the council has said the rise is £x per week based on 53 Mondays in 2007. However, the council grants two rent free weeks, so OP has divided the yearly rent by 51 and found that the rise is 5p more.

    5p.

5p, based on a different way of working out what one pays over a year. I could understand it if I skipped back 40 years to when I was a kid and 5p was a shilling!

*Makes mental note to ask my mortgage provider if I can have two mortgage free weeks*

Im pretty sure that the 2 weeks rent free has stopped and it was never that anyway the yearly reant was divided by 50 rather than 52 so tenants got the illusion of a free week at easter and christmas i think it was

As I work in social housing I can confirm this is absolutely true.

All monies from Council Homes is reinvested into the Housing Revenue Fund - this money has to be strictly used for council homes only. It is a seperate pot of money from other council funds and if misued the Local Authority would be in big trouble.

I think Council house rents are very reasonable compared to the private rented sector.

Absolutely! They are very reasonable compared to the private sector and in some cases, Housing Association rents.
