If I put £5 in my Mondeo to take it up to the first mark it'll go up a little bit. If I then park facing on a slight uphill, it'll go down to below where it was when I put the fiver in.

A car is supposed to have a service ( a service is NOT a complete check or overhaul of the entire car ) every few thousand miles,it is different for every car but every 6,000 is an example.
So,as an example, lets say you do 6,000 mile each year and the car is 5 years old,you will have had 5 services done. You should have a service history book that came with the car that you get stamped at each service. That would then have a full service history.
  • I don't see how you can't see what the term full service history means, I get that you're new to cars but it's a self explanatory term.

History, something that has happened in the past. Unless they have a time machine of course.

Yes, get a full service done at your local garage, not kwik fit.

No, you will never have full service history for the car.

    The gauge probably isn't faulty.

Sounds like the fuel level sensor is sticking, in older cars its a float (like in the toilet cistern), filling up the tank might free up the mechanism. Filling just £5 a time is also a bad idea, my brothers ex had her car in the garage every 2 weeks through doing this.
