Oh, wow! I had forgotten about that! It was called Bazaar, or something similar - I used to love that programme!0 -
She's loaded and money is no object
Lavandula, Yeah, they're all doing ok and especially Nigella...Seeing the price of lamb and pork and what you get for your money in the SM I imagine it cost silly money...
SB44,I wish we had a wholesaler butcher around here(maybe we do)but you'd need access to transport and a fair bit of money upfront.
Though at present I have no room for anything more in my fridge/freezer. So hopefully I can have some decent meals for a while."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

That's it, I bet I have the newsletters still somewhere...I don't really know why the programme came to an end or something similar could not be done again...it can't have cost much to make..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. For no particular reason I wlked into a Tesco's Metro quite a large in Durham City and found quite a few products are more expensive than in my own town.
It could be because it is a Metro store, though I remember a programme on ITV some months ago that showed you pay more or less across various retailers deparding on which part of the UK you live.
The excuse given in the past was that you pay more for renting a retail unit in some locations os prices are adjusted occasionally.
Then again, because Durham is a university town and lots of students live there perhaps they think they can charge more...who knows. I noticed Iceland does not seem to be charging more for what they sell from the posters in their window...
I did not have the chance to explore more being that it was Sunday and evening so many places were closed. I found a local menswear retailer with the same name as me...beautiful clothes but very expensive:eek:out of my price range..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. We have a Tescos and 2 Tescos Metro in our town. When they had mincemeat on offer at 20p, our large store sold out. So I had to go to the metro and get it for 21p.0 -
I was spotting differences in the region of 20p-40p or here you can possibly buy two items for approx £1 where buying one item might cost 75p such offers were not available... but as said on another thread perhaps they are trying harder here because a new Aldi's open in less than two weeks and is situated almost next to their SM.
I see two new shop units are being opened too but I don't know what they will be but it seems to have encouraged others to come into the area having the Aldi's open...and these shop units have been empty for years...since Tesco's came here."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I wonder if the tide will turn towards smaller corner shops again due to the high cost of fuel.
It used to be a case of driving to different stores for their current bargains, now, the savings aren't really there as you pay the difference in petrol.
Smaller stores on local streets seem to be opening in more areas ie Nisa and Premier, who sometimes have good offers.0 -
Well, I suspect for a variety of reasons most of us stick to a few basic foods and there is only a certain amount of money each week to spend and at least 75% of what my supermarket stocks I don't even look at.
I would welcome the kind of local shops I see on cookery shows such as Nigel Slater's latest series where you have good quality food but shopkeeper's that take a pride in their produce and even advise or give their customers ideas to make something special and make the produce go further, the local butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer...we have three here but what you see is what you get and choice is limited."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. We are very lucky as in our little village we have a butchers shop. Its very nice, and perhaps a few pence dearer than mrt but the taste is sooo much better. There is an allottment grower who sells his produce from the front garden!! Everything is so fresh. Its nice that we still have these.
Everyday fresh bread is delivered to the post office/general store. Have to say if i dont have to go into town now i wont, parking costs more than the fuel my car uses to go. So the savings arent that much when these costs are factored in.BSC member 137

Bought a pack of chicken quarters at the weekend. 5 in the pack and I got them for £2.83. A lot cheaper than a whole chicken and weight for weight I'd say I get the same in meat. Ok, I need to do a bit more prep but to save the pennies it has to be done.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera.
