Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct board but I was hoping someone here may know if its possible to change your phone number with a contract phone.
My daughter has sperated from her boyfriend and unfortunately he keeps calling and texting her. She doesn't want to speak to him and has asked him to refrain from contacting her but has yet he hasn't took any notice of her requests.
We've told her he'll get bored in time and will stop soon but it must be hard for her when she's trying to move on with her life
she obviously cant just get a new sim card has she will still have to pay her monthly cost till the end of the contract (10 months left on an 18 month contract)
Do you think if she contacted o2 that they would consider allowing her to change her number or not and if so, do you think they would make a charge for this ?
Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

You can get a number change if there is harrasment happening on the current number, they may ask you to contact the police in these cases but if you dont want to do that then they may charge you around £10 for doing this, but if it is serious enough then give them a call and trhey should be able to help you.0

I have sorted problems like this many of times for friends and family, sometimes the networks wont change the number unless there are threats etc so in situations like that I have contacted the person who is making the calls and said the police are now involved and any more calls are being recorded and that any more calls or messages wll result in criminal charges being pressed against them. They soon stop the calls.0 -
Hi,
o2 will change your number the first time for free, further times it is £35. Just explain you have been receiving hassling calls and they will do it pretty easily. Shouldn't ask you to contact police.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
Thank you both very much, I will let my daughter know later and hopefully we can get this sorted now. I thank you also on her behalf, she will be so happy that she will not have to put up with this for much longer :A0

Hope its all sorted out quickly for you,and especially your daughter.0

Just to add I work for o2 and changing a number is a pretty standard thing to them. I doubt they will ask you to contact police etc as this would be in extreme cases where the calls were threatening or abusive. I would just say that a withheld number calls at all times of the night etc and they should change it no problems.
Hopes she gets it sorted.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
My daughter has contacted O2 (well carphone warehouse actually) not 100% sure on the details, but apparently phone taken out through CPW but on O2 network, we were a little confused by it all but I'm sure others will probably understand better than us
Anyway, CPW appeared to be understanding of the situation and where happy to change the number free of charge, the downside being that she would lose her text/minute entitlement through her original contract. She didn't really want to lose that (600 mins & 500 txts) and still have to pay the same monthly charges but no benefits, so the alternative offered by CPW was to send the information given to O2 and they would look into a way of stopping the calls ect.
As long as the calls/texts from ex stop thats the main thing, thank you again for your help0 -

They cant take that off you, its a breach of there terms and conditions, if they say that then I will contact them and will get it sorted out. That is them just tring to earn money out of you. Let me know what happens and I will get it sorted.0 -

We're so easy to fob off
we just excepted what they said.
What do you think we should do now, call them back and say we believe they are in breach of their terms and conditions ? I don't know how best to word it so they don't just fob us off again0
