in Water bills
Hi all,
My first post on here, I am hoping you will be able to give me some advice..
I have a three bedroom house and live alone through the week then at weekends my OH and kids stay.
A water meter was fitted at the start of this month so I received my new statement from United Utilities with this years estimated charges.
I am appalled at the huge disparity between what I have been paying, and what I am required to pay. It was £52 and now it is set at £11.
I have emailed UU and asked how they calculated the figure of £11. Is there anyway UU will be aware of my usage? I know I have previously made it aware that I live alone. I just feel well and truly ripped off for the last six years when I could have been on metered usage!
Any help or ideas??
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.
Why ripped off?
The water company have no idea of your consumption, and every bill you have received will have advised you about the procedure for applying for a meter.0 -
Ok welcome.
If the water meter is only just fitted, then you and UU do not know your consumption. To let others help, it would be a good idea to do the following.
What was you previous payment, before the meter was fitted.
What is your current payment.
When was the meter fitted.
And what is it now reading.
Then those more knowledgeable will help.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!

you haven't been ripped off you were too lazy to apply for a meter sooner0

You weren't ripped off, you were (it is assumed) correctly billed on an RV basis prior to having a meter fitted.
The water utility has no control whatsoever over the RV of the property, and the no. of people in the household, or their consumption, has no relevance under RV billing.
UU will make exactly the same profit under metered or RV billing. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
majority of your bills you've had while been at that 50+ mark , will have a paragraph on there along the lines of "could you save money on a water meter" etc etc . with the 11 a month , i would take a reading after a month of where the oh and kids have been over regularly. and make sure your payments match that usage ..... if you've said you live alone , it may have been set at the average for one person... but even tho its just weekends, it can push up your bills .0

so ...so really ; its typical of your circumstances ... single people use alot less water than a family ; just think of your water bill if your supply pipe leaks and you dont know about it !NSD = 3/31 spent = £97.88/31 groceries = £26/31 fuel =2/31
various debts = /£14366.89:eek:secured loan = /£13887.21 full settlement figuremortgage = /£64,342.45

As a single person on a water meter my 6mthly water bills are around £60 so maybe this is an average they're basing it on.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Without wishing to appear rude it is obvious that you have absolutely no idea what water/sewage actually costs - or even what an "average" person consumes.
I find your claim of being "ripped off" totally bizarre !
I am fairly "average": 3 bed hse, me and the cat, son's washing at w/e.
Last 12 months: 50 cu m, £220 approx with Wessex water -price per cu m will vary with where you live.0
