Help needed: advise on organisations who can help support rehoming my dog in the nw

Does anyone know of any other organisations in the north west that can help with an urgent rehoming of a shitzu/cairn cross? I've left messages at freshfields, RSPCA wirral and dogs trust liverpool. Any others that people know of?

Can't think of any others. Why do you need to rehome your dog?
  • We have 2 dogs living with us (they're my mums) a shitzu and shitzu cross. Shitzu cross can be very possessive and unfortunately this morning she 'defended' her patch (her bed) and hurt the shitzu. It's at a point where we have to consider that the cross needs to be an only pet. I don't want this post to shed her in a bad light as she's a lovely dog, friendly, playful and loves a fuss and walks but she clearly can't handle another dog in the house. We're trying to work out the best scenario for them both

Most rescues have lengthy waiting lists, you might find it easier to rehome the pedigree - could she go back to her breeder or to the breed rescue? Have you asked your vet for a referral to an animal behaviourist? You will find her easier to rehome her if the behaviour was moderated.

  • The vet suggested we have her rehomed but at 5am this morning we didn't have a lengthy chat, will speak to him this afternoon. The breeder has moved (found that our a few months ago). Due to the situation, I don't think we can immediately deal with the possessiveness behaviour. We have a friend who can have her for a few weeks if the rescues can't take her but need support with home checking and assessing a right home for her as don't want her to go to the wrong person and cause her more distress.

Shitzu has epilepsy so I can't imagine anyone will take on his health/vet bills

Have you tried a trainer first ?

I think it will be hard to rehome a dog with 'issues' I help out with a rescue and these dogs seem to be with us a long time :(

How long have you had them both ?
  • Since puppies. Shitzu is 5 and the cross is 2. My concern is that the shitzu will be back from the vet tomorrow and is scared of the cross.
Does anyone know of any good trainers in the nw?

Have they been okay up until now ? If so it could may be that the cross is suffering from an ailment and needs a vet.
