I think you may have been lucky!! You sound identical to me (poor you).I have the black card with credit limit of £2400 ( less than £3000 is classic, more than is platinum) and I spend £250 to £300 per month and pay off in full every month. Also get 1% up to £2000 spend and half % over. BUT I have not been given the years grace for the £20 fee.

If my Morgan Stanley card isn't a Platinum or Buy & Fly does that make it a Classic? I don't think I've seen mine called that in the statements etc.
Did the letter informing of the annual fee come with the statement or was it a separate bit of post?

I don't owe anything on any of my cards at the moment :T so I think I may ditch a couple anyway and get something better.

So can someone confirm which Morgan Stanley card has the annual fee??
  • If you've been told by Morgan Stanley that they are going to charge you £20 a year from June - DON'T PANIC!

I 'phoned their number 0800 389 5274 today, told them I was going to close the account - and after just a couple of minutes of music, they immediately gave in. Apparently they cannot stop the charge going on, but have 'marked my account' for an immediate ( same month ) credit to cancel the charge out.

So, fear not, just call them and remind them you can go elsewhere ! It works !

    Good Luck !

    They have changed their tune!

I was told a manager would call me back. It never happened.

Still puzzled why a company with such a good history of customer service has gone and shot themselves in the foot like this.

i too have just had my statement in with the letter regarding the £20 fee which unfortunately they have not said they will drop for the year but they have 'generously' give me 3 months interest free on my purchases for 3 months. No thanks as this will not make up for me paying £20 for the card my credit limit has just been raised to £3700 which i believe is over that for the platinum card, does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade to avoid the charge.

Morgan Stanley also charged me £15 fee last year. No letter, nothing, I just noticed it on my statement.

I cancelled the card with them. I think I'll do the same with MBNA...
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

  • No negotiation with me either. Basically told me if i don't like it i can close my account, which is what i intend to do. Feel very letdown by a company that previously treated their customers so well.
