Caravan Holiday In March?

Hi,

I have never been on a caravan holiday out of summer time, and was wondering what it is like in March?

I know a lot of parks are closed during this month, however, some are open.

Can anyone tell me if the entertainment & facilities are all open during this time?

We are looking to go on the 15th March. Worried that it will be too quite.

Thanks for any help :).

90%+ will be quiet unless the kids are off school . Weekends a bit more to do but not much . When is easter next year ? Easter and the times after is when holiday parks get a bit better but a build up to easter is just slow cold(normally) and quiet. Just how i like it . and also cheap. We are in Snowdonia and i can walk my dog across pathways and around lakes without bumping into anyone . Me doggie and camera . bliss. I like people most of the time but.... just the tranquility of the nothing

I used to have a static caravan on a site which was open March to November. The 'entertainment' was available on weekends outside the 'school holiday' times and during June -August. You would have to check with the site as they vary.
saying that - March can be very cold, so check that the caravan has central heating (most do)and take along some extra duvets/blankets!
The advantages are that the sites are very quiet midweek - rates are reasonable and as long as you dont expect to lounge on the beach (tho I have actually done that in March in a sheltered bay), ensure that there are enough activities to keep everyone amused if the weather is bad!
Take a pack of cards and some board games and you will have a great time! honestly, my kids used to abandon the game boy to play board games with us............Trivial pursuit, Dirty Minds and Ludo were great faves!
We taught the kids mental arithmetic by playing 21s and Trumps, and we all learned Poker one year! ahhhhh, fond memories of staying 'down the 'van' out of season!
  • Depends on the site. Some have an entertainments program from the day they open, others have nothing or a limited program until later in the year.

My ex was an ents manager at a holiday park and till Easter they only had bingo in the evening and that was it.

  • i would be more concerned with the weather i have been away in april and the caravans at night get freezing even with heating. it feels damp and cold and to be honest spoiled our holiday. So I would say in March even if the weather is ok it goes off really cold at night.

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200

you must be using the wrong heater,my 18ft tourer is kept more than warm enough with a mid sized oil filled radiator, and as most sites are leccy inclusive no probs,
if you are on about statics then you deffo need one with central heatic as oppsed to gas fires, it is the fires that make them damp

weather wise its luck of the draw. I have been camping in march before now so it just depends.
  • Thanks for your replies,

Ive seen quite a few parks open for the time i stated but no where seems to say whats on around that time ect. Will try to e-mail a few places.

Were expecting it to be quite cold so will be concidering a central heated caravan now as we thought they were only gas fires in them, so thanks for the help. :)

If anyone's been in march around the time ive stated above, could you let me know how it was for things being open e.g. shops near by, on-site entertainment ect?

    :)

  • I'm not interested in no where pacifically, I just wanted to know if many caravan parks are lively enough around this time, and what to expect to be open.. considering most caravans are closed around this time, I'm worried the ones that are actually open will be really quite.

Open to anywhere in the UK, so recommendations would be nice :).

Take plenty of board games with you and books, believe me you will be bored stiff. (and cold)
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
