Hi all
My balance is zero, although bizarrely they keep adding £1 on every month, I pay the £1 and then they add another to the next statement!
Can I close the account by telephone? Or is it best in writing?
Any advice would be much appreciated thank you

How about ringing and asking?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Yes seems obvious you would say that, however I cannot be bothered with the usual trying to sell me something each time I call them. What should be a normal telephone call turns out to be very annoying and judging on the past advisors I have spoken to I don't expect them to be very helpful. Also seeing as though there is no mention of how to close your account on the website, I forsee difficulties. Hence, why I was asking this question to see if anyone had been able to actually just 'call' and close their account without difficulty.0

You need to find out what the pound is for. They can't and wont close the card until nothing is taken from it. When everything is closed on it then it will time expire, you can't actually close it because if someone makes a claim on it they will pay it and send the statement to you for payment, so make sure there are no recurring charges linked to it.0

Why do people really need to make smart *ss comments?0

Write to then enquiring what the £1.00 is about ( could be residual interest) and state in writing that you want to close the account. Keep a copy of the letter(s) you send for your records.
I have called the bank/catalogue/credit card companies before and they have things to sell me and it just annoys me, so I do everything by letter.DEBTFREE AND PROUD!!0 -

I'm assuming you mean me, there.
I made my comment based on what I would do were I in the same position - ring the people who would know the answer, and give it to me straight away, rather than post on a website and wait for 5 different answers.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
The reason for the £1.00p charge is in the contract and in the pre-contract information which goes something like, "If in any statement period the interest is less than £1 a minimum finance charge of £1 will be added to the account and the interest will be waived."
Why is the advice to telephone Vanquis a "smart !!! comment"? That's the obvious thing to do. Why the OP has posted this at all is totally beyond my understanding?0 -
Each time my husband calls and asks about closing it they would put the phone down on him.
He does not get the £1 a month charge though so it's not been an issue.
I would write to them enclosing the card, cut up, and then tell them you do not want to be a customer anymore and you want to close your account. You would also like to know what the £1 is for - does it say on the statement?0 -

I appreciate the advice with regards to the £1 fee thanks.
However, 'Why the OP has posted this at all is totally beyond my understanding', seriously is this not an advice board? Read my second response and of the issues people have encountered contacting Vanquis. If you can't advise me without being sarcastic then don't at all.0
