quiet sound on Sky+ HD

I have just had Sky installed but cannot hear the television, I even plug my headphones in and they are a good pair set the volume upto 100 out of 100 and it is barely audible and I cannot hear what people are saying.
I find it incredible that you put a tv on full blast and you cannot hear a simple conversation.
This is not limited to HD it is all channels, even BBC1.
Can anybody please help?
I may have to cancel the whole subscription as I cannot justify paying £60 a month on TV, BB and Phone when I cannot hear the television

I have just had Sky installed but cannot hear the television,
Try unplugging the box at the mains, then ensure that every cable is securely connected both to the box and to the television. Now switch the Box back on again.
Alternatively, check the sound settings both on the box and on your television. You aren't using an amplifier are you? It goes without saying this should be switched on! Does your Sky remote operate the TV volume?
You could also post your problem on the Sky help forum if required (and probably get an answer quicker than here)

I meant I cannot make out what people are saying. There is volume coming through but it is extremely minimal, and inaudible most of the time0

Some TVs have a way of balancing the audio feed between inputs, I did have problems with a Sharp TV which I replaced some time ago. What TV do you have?
Sky did away with the option of adjusting output volume some time ago.
Are you connecting by HDMI or Scart? Is there another source you could try?
You could try posting on www.skyuser.co.ukThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
There is a master volume setting within the set up menu on a standard Sky+ box, presume its the same on an HD+ box? Check that this isn't set very low.
Is the box connected with HDMI lead or component leads? If component make sure that the 5 plugs are pressed home firmly at both ends.
I believe older HD boxes had SCART connections as well; its a common problem to lose sound with SCART,if using make sure that the sockets are pushed home or try another SCART lead.0 -
It's HD pointless me using a scary lead if I'm paying for an HD subscription.
So I cannot change the output volume of the box?0 -
There is no option to change the audio output level of a Sky+ HD box.

Almost certainly a problem on your TV - the volume on a Sky+HD box isn't adjustable, and considering how many people have one, it would be a big issue. Check your TV's menus for volume correction or similar for your HDMI input.0

Could be as simple as a defective HDMI cable. I'd start by reversing it (yes, that worked for me once) and, if that doesn't work, try another one.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
