Op... I have no additional useful advise that hasn't already been said..
But..
I wanted to post my sympathy and support. You post was well written and contained all the needed detail without being over long ... Meaning someone could answer. Without needing to ask for extra details.
I am sorry that you have experienced some less then supportive comments and I sincerely hope this has not put you off becoming a regular on these forums.0 -
Nobody on any Internet forum can actually determine all the facts required to resolve this matter. And even if they could get all the facts, they couldn't resolve the matter.
The only way forward is - if the OP's girlfriend is certain that she is not in any way involved with the spurious payments - for the OP's girlfriend to raise a formal, written, complaint with Lloyds. Then make sure she has proof of delivery. If she then has not been able to come to a satisfactory conclusion within 8 weeks of delivery of her complaint, she can take her case to the FOS, for a final judgement.
A couple of things in the OP do strike me as odd - - such as that- a couple of "other members of bank staff having overheard what was going on and had come over to try and help" ---- picture the scene.
- further, the random bank staff who just walked up to join the discuss voicing their disbelief at the way in which the GF had been treated ---- again, picture the scene
- a Lloyds employee, in front of several colleagues, suggesting a customer should close their Lloyds account and go to another bank
- a Lloyds employee to offer that Lloyds have been doing similar things to other customers

I think the bank will refuse because they accuse the OP's girlfriend of being party to a fraud - and therefore don't want her as a customer at all. And will put a flag on her details so that no other bank will want her either.
This is the problem with banks; if they're accusing someone of money laundering, in the ideal world they should go to the police, who can decide any wrongdoing, not use automated computer systems and someone on a script.
This is why it's always best to have a standby bank account, just incase.

This happened with me a couple of years back on a 4-5 month old Lloyds account.
My gf sent me her share of the rent to my account (same house, same ip address). They blocked my account and never once told me about it.
Tried using my card later that evening and it wouldn't work. Called up customer care and they put me through to the fraud department (FD).
Me: My card is blocked
FD: Sorry but we've blocked your account as we detected an incoming transfer which might be fraudulent and we're investigating it.
Me: Huh ? What.. when.. who ?
FD: Sorry but I can't reveal that. All your DD etc will still be paid. However nothing can come in. You can certainly close the account and take the money out.
Me: Don't want to do that, but I guess I know what you're talking about. Was the amount for xxx ?
FD: *Silent* Umm..
Me: Was it from xxxx ?
FD: Umm yeah. How do you know that ? OMGHEISPSYCHIC !!
Me: You nincompoop... she's my girlfriend and she's right here with me. Hands my phone over to her.
FD: *After verifying all her details* Oh ok. Thanks for the confirmation. Your account is now unblocked. Sorry for all the trouble. Here's £70 goodwill.
Me: Hmm... thanks. Bye.
Hey. £70 wasn't bad. But obv. they should tell you when your account is blocked and it would've been a major inconvenience had it dragged on longer. Needless to say, I opened a couple of other bank accounts soon after and now, use Lloyds pretty sparingly.0 -

My accountant had the same issue when she sent just over £120k in 2 amounts into my account in December last year (business expenses that I'd paid personally, including 57 hotel rooms for 9 nights and 101 flights from all over Europe going to/from one city)
I phoned them as I couldn't get onto online banking and they spoke to her, verified who she was and checked a business account with the same bank, at the same branch. £70 is good, but the accounts for the contract in question are now with 90% of the rest of the business accounts with HSBC.
Unfortunately, AE don't do a Business Avios card, or I'd take the offer up!!!

Surely that depends on the nature of the problem. Sometimes they have a legal obligation not to draw the matter to your attention unnecessarily. This happened with me a couple of years back on a 4-5 month old Lloyds account.

Why would you use Lloyds sparingly when your problem was with First Direct?and it would've been a major inconvenience had it dragged on longer. Needless to say, I opened a couple of other bank accounts soon after and now, use Lloyds pretty sparingly.0 -
they informed her that they would communicate to other banks to prevent her setting up a new account. She then said that she would close her account and move to another bank, to which she was given the reply "Okay, go ahead".
Well if they do communicate to other banks, as indicated, the fraud via a CIFAS marker there is very little chance of getting another bank account with any bank. If you manage to open one before the marker is put, they'll also probably close it once they hear about it anyway.0 -

FD = Fraud Department.
Sorry for not being clearer

i read it all, typical fraud dept if you ask me, all they need to do is look at facts as they see them. they dont need customer service charms. just write to or call and make an official complaint.
ps. no one has any control over what is put into an account, they just need account no and sort code which can be found anywhere.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
