Orange Decline and accept!?

Hi All,

I have an issue with an Orange contract i took out.

I initially placed an online order, this was accepted with no issues.

Once they contacted me to say the order could take 30 days i cancelled it over the phone and said i would place it in store instead, this was accepted as OK.

I went into the iStore and said i wanted the phone with Orange and that i had an accepted credit check, so it should just need linking. The iStore assistant phoned Orange and went through some basic details.

I was then passed over and the Orange representative asked for some details and then said i failed a credit check. I was very surprised at this as i wasn’t expecting one to be done, the iStore assistant should have passed this information across. I left the store and phoned Orange. They notified me that this is not what should have happened and i would need to go into the iStore to get this declined credit check removed.

I have since contacted Orange and got an email address to contact, and got this reply.

Please note that searches of your credit file should all have been made with your consent.

Unfortunately on this occasion we have been unable to make any amendments to your credit file. After investigating this matter we can confirm that the information showing on your credit file for Orange searches are correct.

Please be advised that Information regarding these searches will be held on your credit file for a period of 1year from the date of application. This is the standard period of time the credit reference agencies hold information relating to closed accounts. This is set by the credit reference agencies themselves and not Orange.

They dont seem to understand that i didn't actually know they were doing another credit check.

I did an experian check and i cannot see the credit check, failed or otherwise. Is there anything i can do to get this rectified? I feel like they have messed about with my rating, then refused to rectify their mistake.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

You need to see your credit file, not to 'do some check'. Also, are you sure that it was Experian?

It has to be just credit searche(s). No information gets reported on whether it failed or otherwise.

I don't think that this can be rectified. One extra credit search makes very little difference and, although it remains in the file for a year, in a few months the effect will be almost negligible.

    It was through Credit Expert.
    I found these searches:
    First
    Application Type: Utility

    Second
    Identification: Generic Check

    Martin's article.

My rating still says 999, but i do have to remortgage shortly, just don't want it to affect me.
If it is just a search and not affect on my credit rating then it will just have to be left.

When i was younger i missed some credit card payments and they stayed on my report for years, i was just worried about the same kind of thing.

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks

    Read the article.
Searches do affect the rating negatively, but in less degree and for a shorter time than late payment and defaults.
