ORANGE - Poor show for FSnet & Wanadoo users

I fix computers and give technical support.
I never like to be beaten by a problem and dont give in easily but when it comes to Orange and email for their FSnet and Wanadoo customers I find myself stumped.
Orange took over both FSnet and Wanadoo and all their customers and whenever a customer of theirs contacts me over an email problem I know that its going to be a difficult one.
Most of their customers that come to me are already frustrated at having to have made long and unfruitful calls to an 0870 number.
I have gone through all the settings given by orange and set up Outlook express accordingly.
I succeeded in getting it to receive emails but not send. I then deleted everything and started over just to see and found some emails were sending and thought the problem was solved and as soon as I went to leave it in the hands of my customer they stopped sending.
I then suggested she open a free yahoo email account and set it up in Outlook Express so she could still receive her usual FSnet mail but use the Yahoo to send.
That didnt work either. Yahoo's help pages suggest that some providers dont allow the use of external email servers to go through their system.
I ran out of time and embarassingly had to leave my customer in the lurch until after Easter.
Has anyone else come up against this problem with Orange who cant even help their own customers?
More importantly has anyone found a solution to it?
I'd be grateful for any advice on this

Does the mail work when logged in through webmail? I do similar work & have just recently set up a system for people that needed their fsnet mail on to outlook. They were on uclub or something. As ,long as the pop3 is pointed to the fsmail the smtp pointed to their current isp's it should be ok. If you are sure that all was set up correctly then it may be their servers. What error do you get on send & recieve?
I always try and get customers on to a web mail that is accessable with outlook set up as http mail. gmail or lycos.co.uk, I have found are very good and free. The selling point is that they are then not tied to an isp for the mail.
yahoo.com are charging for mail access for e-mail client progs. yahoo.co.uk is still free. To send through yahoo on the account you set up u will still need to put their orange server as the smtp.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -

Maybe their account has lapsed you can restore it here.

I know it talks about dialup but it worked for me with broadband.
By the way I got this info by emailing Oranges help desk 4 months after I had left them for Sky and their response came within a few minutes, which I thought was very good on their part. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Can they log in to their email account at https://www.fsmail.net ?
I can look at my .freeserve.co.uk account from there.0 -

So what error message does OE give you?
When trying to send through yahoo.co.uk in outlook express she gets the error message:
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user/password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Now the password box keeps popping up whenever she clicks on send/receive.
Sending through orange some emails get sent but most of them dont0
