Have you informed Inland Revenue that you have stopped work, because WTC will stop, if not you might end up with an overpayment?

You may be able to get Income Support, depending on your capital & savings, also Council Tax Benefit.

You could ask at your Citizens Advice Bureau - find nearest one here.

Also have a look at the FAQ's which are at the top of this board, you might find some useful posts there.

It's a difficult one to answer that, in that it depends how efficient/busy your local Jobcentre is. Unfortunately people find it can take a number of weeks to sort out, especially if you are not an "urgent" case. You might get some idea if you ask when you go in as they should know how quickly claims are being processed at the moment.

If you can though you want to claim Income Support, because it's only on IS that you can get help with your mortgage ( and that is only after a few months) - see Ted's link for info.

It is confusing, make a list of all the questions you want to ask Jobcentre & CAB (perhaps the same questions.... CAB can check the info you receive. Good luck, hope it gets sorted out soon!
