Thanks for the reply.
I just thought it might be compulsory to have a named driver if you had a motobility car, obviously it isn't.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Hi, I'm the named driver on my gramps' car, its just a back up really, I drive it maybe 6 times a year.0

This would be abuse of the scheme as the car and road tax are for the benfit of the disabled person only, they cant get a car and give it to you for you to transport your kids arounds etc as your own family vehicle.
I cant see why you cant travel the way you do know and just have the car for the benefit of the disabled person though, you dont have a family car now so it would be no diffrent to you apart from the perks of getting your own shopping in etc. while you are running errands for the disabled person.
I think PippaGirl explained my situation perfectly a few posts above yours. I simply do not have time in the day to help this person without the use of a car.
But I will call Motability on Monday to see what they say about the situation.0 -
Sorry but the way round using the car to drop the kids at school would be to go directly to do deeds for the disabled person straight after. Not strictly legit but...
I've found myself in the position where I could get 2 loads of free road tax. My dd and my dm are both in receipt of HRM. I use my own car. At present, I have my dm's tax disc in the car, I do her laundry once a week and a few bits of shopping throughout the week, but only when I'm going myself if that makes sense, and I do feel like a fraud using her tax disc. But find I'm increasingly doing more for my dd, daily basis, so think it might be time to swap them over. Although, I'm never in my car unless I'm doing for one of the other.... baffled? I am4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Does that mean that when im not using my car and my partner is, even if that isn't specifically for my benefit, we are breaking some kind of rules? Kinda worried now that he can only drive it under certain circumstances and what they are?The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0 -

Motability regualarly give out the wrong information, contact the DVLA and ask for it in writing that you/your husband can use the disabled tax disc to run the kids to school (ugg) or for work etc. (ginger) and you will both find that you cant.
They can and do fine people for abusing disabled tax discs, we had them knocking on our door because someone reported us and we were doing nothing wrong as my disabled tax is on my car which only I use/d and my husband has/d two cars of his own.0 -
I have a similar situation, as, I suspect, do the majority of spouses of those with a Motability car. I take my DH to his Alzheimers club, several times a week, then drive home, and do the reverse trip several hours later.
Should I leave my car at the club and walk home, because he isn't physically with me? And if I go mad, and after he's got out the car, I drive another mile or so, and have coffee with a mate, that's even worse - or is it?
To be strictly within the rules, I'd have to park another car, which I don't have, at the club, and leave the Motability car, and then drive home in The Other Car, if I had one! I think this is a really grey area, and whilst it's totally wrong to abuse the system, there has to be some leeway.
