Portable Tent Heaters?

Hi!

I plan to go to a festival next year. I went last year and was constantly freezing no matter what I wore! I loved the festival, but waking up every hour because I was so freezing made it a not so pleasant experience!

I was wondering if you can buy portable battery operate heaters for camping? I did a quick google but most are gas filled things that they don't allow in!

I'm aware of the flammable risks blah blah, but ideally just need something I can put on for 15 minutes to heat up the tent and then turn it off!

Thanks!

Wouldn't it be easier just to get a warmer 3 or 4 season sleeping bag?
Apart from the safety angle, your heat's going to be escaping pretty much straight away so you'll still be waking up cold as the night goes on.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

People go to the Poles and camp up Everest and don't have tent heaters, they survive because they are properly equipped.

Wear more clothes, including thermal baselayers, a fleece snood and a hat, buy a decent sleeping bag and use a hot water bottle.
  • Ok - let's take sleeping bags out of the equation.

The Only question I need to know is where I can buy one.

If ya don't know, then thanks for reading!

If you do, I look forward to receiving your post :D
  • Oh and trying to get hot water at a festival is like trying to staple water to a tree!

Get yourself off the ground and have as many layers under as over.

If you get one of the cheapo flocked airbeds, it's amazing how much heat they throw back at you.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

The only ones I've seen have to run off a car battery, so that's going to be no use for festivals. I suspect you're going to be out of luck on this one.

As has been said,if you find a heater they are
    1) going to be very heavy
    2)very expensive
    3) absolutely no use once you turn them off
even in a caravan once you turn the heater off you will be surprised how quick it gets cold
    4) or you buy a car battery and an inverter, then you have the weight and how do you re-charge the battery,

Take the SENSIBLE advice re clothing and sleeping equipment

Why not go to a real festival that doesn't forbid cooking gear in order to maximise profit from their rip-off concession stalls?

The "safety" claims are IME nothing more than an excuse.

A full set of long johns are also useful and can easily be tie-died if you want to keep to the spirit of things but I'll admit they can be awkward if its a festival that doesn't clean its turdises properly. ICK!

Another option if you won't get decent camping gear is a simple hurricane lamp hung inside the tent. Even a small lamp will heat a two person tent nicely for an entire festival weekend on a single fill if you don't turn it too high. Even tea-light lamps will radiate a surprising amount of heat in a small tent and will extinguish if knocked over. If you can't hang them, sit them on a plate to avoid wax spilling.

And lastly, what festival gets that cold? Even right at the beginning/end of the season I've gone to festivals and not needed extra heat.
