I think Confuzzled was referring to this post.

Please keep posting, Kittie. I find your posts really helpful :)

yes thanks, I try to be helpful but what is getting me is that some on here are expecting 100% accuracy. He posts his R warnings 45 days in advance so they can be out a few days . We had snow all around today and oh dear it is only the 4th but that is accurate enough in my book. Nothing at all on the weather forecast. Tbh, I am prepared for the bad stuff just in case but am getting worried about posting because of chinese whispers and people worrying too much. Trouble is that I put 7 PLUS and some people just don`t get it and only see 7

Agree. He certainly is more accurate than the weather we see on TV - they often make huge mistakes only a day in advance :rotfl:

I am glad I saw what you posted because, having had frozen and burst pipes outside last year, I have bought a tubular heater online for the outhouse (will be delivered tomorrow) so I can protect the WM pipes... I can't begin to tell you how stressed I was last year when the pipes burst.

I still haven't done some of my important winter preps so will be trying to get on with those this week.

I bought some foamy tape stuff (technical term, ;)) from wilkinsons yesterday. The type for putting on windows. DS bedroom window seems to have a duff rubber seal, and can get a bit draughty. So, after seeing comments on here about it, I thought I'd try the tape. It was £3.60 for 3 rolls, and I only needed half a roll. Was really easy to just stick around the edge of the open window, and when I shut it, it seemed to create a tight seal. It's definitely not draughty anymore, and it's much colder tonight! So I'm well pleased with that. Will see if anywhere else needs the other rolls...

Hi, quick question, this foamy tape stuff, is it removable ot does it super stick?? We live in a rented flat, and the wind comes in round the edges of the windows like they're open! But I'm nervy of doing anything that would potentially lose our deposit?

    Hi
It's not amazingly sticky, actually. I needed to clean the frame to get it to stay on. Doesn't seem it would do much damage. HTH.

Talking of which, I was casually looking at heated throws and took a moment to glance at the John Lewis website. They have warnings on their descriptions to say they shouldn't be used by those with pacemakers.

I suppose that could apply to electric blankets? Well, those that stay on overnight. Probably alright if switched off after the bed is warm enough...

I always split it into two lots this way as well. Saves it getting all crushed and creased too, which saves on the ironing time.

Apart from hating ironing with a passion, I was also staggered to find out how much electric an iron uses, about 8-10p an hour, fancy paying that much for pure torture.

I think it's much more money saving to ignore the ironing. :D

I try not use the TD much or the washer and build up a decent load. Being single it can take a while. The best wash cycle for me lasts 90 mins:eek:And if the weather was better whilst I am here and have access to a garden and washing line(I hope it stays that way, I don't want to relocate)I try to use the drier sparingly.

But that is a good idea about an extra spin in the washer as is the idea of splitting the load in the drier...makes sense when you think about it, a lot of my clothes are shirts(mainly short sleeved)then trousers a bit like track suit bottoms, odd jumpers/cardigans/thermals so I suspect the shirts will dry quickest. Then put the heavier items in to it.

My Dad was great at ironing...I'm sorry I have a lovely new iron I purchased(but I never used and I have a feeling I never will)but it does no harm to have one...I don't worry about the wrinkles:p

Pops I'd also check the labels before putting thermals in td. If they are synthetic they might spoil. Our thermals dry v quick on airers anyway...

  • On the subject of getting stuff dry - has anyone got / know anyone who's tried one of these? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/8501147.htm (Dry Buddy)?

I know a few people have the Lakeland airer (but very expensive :() and was looking for alternatives.

There's been quite a lot in the news recently about having loads of washing hanging around being bad for you http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/drying-your-laundry-indoors-is-a-health-risk-say-scottish-experts.1351854903 and funnily enough I've been having huge problems with damp upstairs in my house this year (which I think may be down to having washing up most of the summer too as it's been so awful).

I remember years ago that we used to take it to the laundrette and wash / dry rather than hanging it up and then used the TD at home but now it's always just hung up to avoid the extra costs of TD etc .......
