  • Bought myself a jersey cotton sheet from Lidl for £6.99.It feels lovely and soft-haven't put it on the bed yet but plan to do that next week.

We bought some fleece sheets last year and they are amazingly soft and warm. We actually prefer them to the flannel now. If the weather keeps as cool as it has been here lately I shall be putting mine on straightaway as well.
  • I had to pop into primark today and picked up 3 fleece blankets for £3.90 each. They're amazingly soft and are red with owls on. I have put one on the armchair and the other 2 are to go on the sofa but at that price I think I will buy some more for the beds.Easy to wash and quick to dry as well as warm :)

Fruball and Islandmaid - My energy drops in winter too, it's been less noticeable for the last 2 winters though presumably due to me now taking Vitamin D tablets. Have you tried those?

We've done 2 winters in our house now, the first without winter prep and the second with. The first winter we discovered that our north facing living room is really dark and sitting in the dark in the daytime (at weekends etc) was depressing and tiring. So last autumn I got a daylight bulb and we now have that turned on whenever we are in there in the daytime, it makes the lounge light and bright and makes a huge difference to our mood, it's really noticeable. (It's not a SAD light or anything, and it's not SAD that affects us, it's just sitting in the dark that's the problem.)

    I got this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000F6Z4EG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ditto all the above! haha! I take vitamin d but a spray i got from amazon which had good reviews. Also got the ecoz0ne bi0bulbs from amazon in some rooms :D They are fantastic. My neighbour thought we had a sunbed upstairs as it was so bright!

They also dry quickly too which is an important factor during the winter when you may have to dry things indoors. (I've only recently started to leave washing bed linen until it's a good drying day instead of washing them on the day I change them. Obvious I know, but just something I've always done!:o)

I can vouch for having a fleece underblanket instead of a cotton sheet. We use one on our pull out bed in the caravan and its not just warm, it feels so so snuggly! We only tried this because we had forgotten to take the bottom sheet with us when we went for the weekend, so we just had to use the fleece blanket we had as spare bedding for when it felt chilly.

Now we use it all the time just because it feels so nice. I can wash it out in the morning and the water just falls out of it so it dries within the day! Worth considering if you have nowhere to dry in the winter.
:hello:  please play nicely children !
  • I have finished babysitting/grandchild duties, phew hard work at our age but glad to have been of use the whole week, involved a lot of travelling too.

I will be working v hard tomorrow, preps outside for mega bad weather as per dates in above post. Big squashes are almost all in now, will need to protect butternuts and will bring in all the mini squashes. Very concerned about then tbh. Potential to be ultra bad. Will have all washing done by then, food in and fuel for alternative cooking

I realised that one of my long winter jackets needs a wash so I am doing that today. I will dry it outside as it's still fairly warm here.:)

  • Think I'm nearly done on my preps, just trying to eat down my stores so I can start buying more in date ones come October, and defrost the freezer before restocking. Will probably come across more things I need as I read the thread!

Thank you for sharing the light bulb tip.
I have ordered x3. I love the idea of a bright day light bulb using 20W.
Not looking forward to when the clocks fall back on 26th October.
The evenings are so long when it goes dark from 4pm.
