    :hello: Hi all,

We,ve been stocking up too, have bought 5 sacks of coal for the multifuel burner, OH has been storing wood all year too - so fingers crossed we,ll be warm.

The slow cookers are out and in use, bulk cooking for winter is deff the way to go.

I loose all energy once the sun disappears, so to be able to grab a bag of HM dinner from the freezer is a major bonus :D

Winter duvets are already on the beds, even though its too hot really, the huge fleeces have been washed - one for each sofa, and one each for the kids beds.

Christmas prezzies are being bought/made as I can get them - not going mad this year HM hampers all round :p

Ditto. I actually quite like autumn now largely due to this wonderful thread kicking off this time of year and lots of warmly preppy posts :D but in a month or so my energy will drop to nearly nothing.

    Evening all

I found a winter coat in the cs on sunday for £10, although the colours a bit bright for the usual me I discovered I don't really care anymore..it'll keep me warm and dry and that's what matters!

I also managed to get a pair of decent goose down Snow Boots on E*ay for £20..collected them from post office on saturday and they look brand new and are lovely, warm and comfortable....so pleased!!

Only thing I need now is the door curtains, slippers and jumpers. cant seem to find these though so guessing its a bit early for the shops as still have summer sales on.

I switched my vertical blinds on the livingroom window out for plain nets and despite the fact I've painted the livingroom in browns to visually warm it up, the difference being able to get the light through into the room is amazing! I feel more awake, more energetic, and I'm itching to do the same in my bedroom so I can wake up with the sun! I'll be closing curtains to get changed but opening them again before I actually get into bed is the way I think at the minute.

I really can't believe I am still wearing a light denim shirt to go out when just a few years back I already had the heating on at this point!

  • Can I ask....

    Wool bedding (again, sorry!)

If I buy an "all weather 3-14tog " duvet from the wool room its going to cost me £209.00

but if I buy it like this:

"Double classic summer wool 3-6 tog" @ £67.99
"Double Classic Medium Wool 8-12 tog" @ £79.99
    Total: 147.98

    So effectively I'm "saving" £61.02

Would I REALLY notice the difference between the 2 tog at winter?!

the classic cannot be washed. The all seasons can be washed and the 2 duvets in the pack are beautifully made to clip together so are very variable. I like to was my duvets once a year

Two duvets loose in a duvet cover would potentially slip about

Fruball and Islandmaid - My energy drops in winter too, it's been less noticeable for the last 2 winters though presumably due to me now taking Vitamin D tablets. Have you tried those?

We've done 2 winters in our house now, the first without winter prep and the second with. The first winter we discovered that our north facing living room is really dark and sitting in the dark in the daytime (at weekends etc) was depressing and tiring. So last autumn I got a daylight bulb and we now have that turned on whenever we are in there in the daytime, it makes the lounge light and bright and makes a huge difference to our mood, it's really noticeable. (It's not a SAD light or anything, and it's not SAD that affects us, it's just sitting in the dark that's the problem.)

    I got this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000F6Z4EG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I read that they were dry cleanable - And I didn't mean put them together (sorry!) the summer one used for summer, and the medium on used for winter.

The Medium says "up to 12 tog" - The all seasons goes to 14 tog. So the only difference is 2 tog and £60 if that makes sense

I'd use the summer duvet through Spring - Summer and the winter from Autumn - winter. Clean each duvet after their "season" has ended then vac pack them away if that makes sense

This is why I have swapped my blinds for nets! The house was so dull, now downstairs is filled with light and I'm not having to put the light on during the day which I've been doing for the last 10 years! The difference in my mood is amazing and I'm hoping my electric bill will drop a bit as well, especially when I put the nets up in the other rooms as DD shuts her curtains to get changed for privacy as she has a blackout blind, then she sits there in her room with light on and the curtains closed while its still bright daylight! Its cost me £55 to do:
    - 2.10m wide window, 48" drop using roughly 4x gathering on it
    - 2.10m wide window, 40" drop using roughly 4x gathering on it
    - 1.5m wide window, 40" drop using roughly 4x gathering on it
    - kitchen has a piece approx 1.5m wide, 40" drop, to go up, which is actual width, I'm using it for privacy/keep flies out and will then have a new roller blind up over it
    - Bathroom has a 60cm wide, 40" drop, piece same as kitchen.
    - 2 super long net rods
    - 1 long net rod
    - 1 medium net rod
    - 5 sets of "end hooks"
    - 5 sets of "middle hooks"

and it has so been worth it so far! I'm actually looking forward to taking them down once a month and washing them since we live on a busy road and next to a very run down house :o:rotfl:

hot chocolate, now that is a good one to have in but I haven`t bought any yet as I cannot find any instants that are not loaded up with sugar or, even worse, horrible chemical nasties.

Not sure if this any good for you but i made some hot chocolate with powered milk, mixed with organic cocoa powder and organic milk chocolate grated in. Worked really well , no bitter after taste and the organic chocolate had enough sugar in on its own without adding extra.

Another alternative i used, naughty i know, is $ainsburys fairtrade basic hot chocolate. Its instant but has far less chemicals and sugars as the other brands.

Started on the store cupboard again, lots of flour, tins and oats being delivered. Heard snow has already landed in canada
  • Back at work but have done a few things -

New jimjams for all, slippers done and coats.

Have been using the slow cooker loads - & not just casseroles!!!

Christmas bits are starting to appear and be hidden

Have sorted electrickery direct debit and have made sure gas ( flaming prepayment thing) has a decent amount of money on it.
