Preparing for winter IV

Big news!! I got an email from my landlord yesterday saying that he's *finally* replacing our boiler!!! I'm so excited!!
Then again, if Russia switches off the gas taps it'll be useless anyway.
Finally got my super kingsize duvet washed! The laundrette in Aberdeen wanted to charge me £25 (!!!) as they don't allow you to do it yourself. So I brought it with me to Edinburgh while I'm staying here and did it myself at a laundrette here for £10!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Congrats!
My winter prep is going quite slooooooooooowwwwly at the moment - I'm quite skint until October so anything that costs is out for now. I'm quite proud though - I earned £15 of Amazon vouchers through Swagbucks and used them to buy Vitamin D tablets for me and OH. They are absolutely essential for us so I'm pleased to have them at the ready and for free!
I have done all the laundry type jobs - sofa blankets, dressing gowns and DSS's fleecy bed blankets. And this weekend I will sort through my gloves, scarves and coats and so on.0 -
I took some good quality, warm winter tops to st margarets hospice shop yesterday. They sell at very reasonable prices and so I am hoping that someone in need will get them. All clean and perfect and apparently that is pretty unusual. Not high fashion and quite a few years old but hardly worn at all so I am thinking that some ebay seller wont nab them.
I bought a couple of good wooden games for the grandchildren when they visit and dh bought a nice leather belt. Tbh you have to be lucky for winter clothes in there as there was quite a bit of tat
Weather is so drab and still today, breathless, tbh roll on winter crispness
I just have to say that I am going, over time, to do a complete wardrobe re-vamp. Summer and winter clothes have been pretty much wasted the past few years and I still have warm woollen jumpers from 20 years ago, hardly worn. Same with summer tops. My plan is to gradually make short sleeved cardi type tops, all hand spun of course and then I can wear them as a layer with t shirts and long sleeved tops or with thin jumpers. I have a full wardrobe but tbh don`t tend to wear more than the same few items over the whole season. I find it easier to just take out a few items at a time for the cs and then I move on and forget about them. Yesterday I donated at least 6 unworn nice vests, I still have two left, I remember buying them because they were a bargain and there is more like that0 -
It's around 22 degrees here on the Kent coast today - lovely sunny day and set to last for a few days yet, ideal time for me to get some coats washed and dry.
EWM has a decent sale on at the moment so we got DH 5 new jumpers/cardis - his old ones are looking very worn and misshaped - worth a look in the mens bit some of the pri -ngle woolen jumpers were down to £10."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
As part of my winter prep I've bought a load of plug plants from @ldi this morning: pansies, primula and polyanthus all happily settled in my patio wall until spring.
May as well have a bit of colour in the gardenBossymoo

kittie, I'm really chuffed that we are having warm weather - the longer the heating stays off the better! It takes all sorts :-)0

I must admit to having a happy feeling that we still have the summer duvets on the bed and sleeping with the windows open. I have been known to have the heating on in Sept when we lived up north so enjoying some money saving.
All wellingtons checked - still fine and fit all
Autumn boots have been replenished for all.
Lounge knee fleeces have been washed and the blanket box is in place.
All woollen hats etc sorted, some need a little wash. Will need to buy back up gloves in preparation for losing some at school. It will happen.
Keep adding to the pot for good quality bed linen and source woollen jacob blankets0 -
It's been such a warm day here it's hard to think about winter preps, but I still need some winter jumpers so whilst I'm away next week I will have a hunt in some new cs to see if I can find a couple. Hats, gloves etc all OK and I've even put the snow shovel just inside shed door! Just a couple of new fleece curtains to do, I have all the stuff left over from last year so it won't cost me anything but time.

Decided to start stocking up on a few winter things to spread the cost a bit.
2 weeks ago I stocked up on chicken soup cans, and then ate some of them, so this evening I got another one with the food shop. Tesco also had 4 for £1 on individual hot chocolate sachets so I bought 2 Cadbury ones and 2 Options ones. I know they're full of sugar but I don't drink them that often, mainly when I'm so cold I'm desperate for a hot drink but it's too late in the evening for tea.
Need to remember to sort out a paracetemol etc box to keep all my useful medicines together, and then stock up on Lemsip flu capsules as I hate the drink but the caps work really well.0 -
I have been looking for some cardigans and jumpers ready for winter (I have lost a few stones and nothing fits so I got rid to cs) all to no avail, anyway today I had some success when my dd1 came across one in a cs we were in and I'm really pleased as its one from Mr S that I wanted to buy last year and didnt bother as it was far too much money, and if I had bought it it would have been far too big now, and funny enough I actually work in said store!! Dd1 if a very canny cs shopper
