Have washed my quilted throw, mega heavy dressing gown and all my new fleece pj's and dressing gown this morning. They are all on the line outside and I know the fleece's dried within an hour....hoping the dressing gown will dry before I have to bring it in, it's so heavy I can hardly lift it on to the line when its wet!

Managed to get tea lights and torch yesterday so that's another job done.

Have decided to look for a poncho and some wrist warmers when I'm doing the cs bargain hunt...I do large cross stitch pieces and seeing as I sit still for hours on end and its not really practical to sit with a blanket around me, I'm thinking these will help to keep me warm during the cold months.
  • Currently spraying the new duvet with Febreeze as it still smells very strongly of duck feathers and I can't return it to Argos as I threw out the packaging (idiot). Been airing it for 2 weeks which has helped but the smell wasn't completely gone, so Febreeze it is! Seems to be working, slowly but surely, suspect I might need to give it another spray over the coming months whenever I change my sheets.

Dressing gown was washed this afternoon and is now hanging up to dry so that's one more job done. This week I need to take my coats to the dry cleaners and get that done and out the way before I start to question if I REALLY need to do it this year (yes, I really do).

Got a week off work in 2 weeks time so going to use some of that to restock the freezer with homemade meals, I'm currently out of bolognese and it's killing me as I LOVE it.

Don't know how many have log fires , stoves etc but...
Aldi have a foot operated log splitter in on Thursday (4th Sep)
Might be ideal for use where you have no power or power is down. Also ideal if you don't like the idea of using an Axe.

It won`t be long before my thin cotton summer dressing gown is not enough. Doh I haven`t had time to make a nice woollen one so I`ll have to wash my fleece one ready, this means that I will be sparking every time I touch anything

I ordered quite a bit more milk and tea, milk is skimmed or whole milk and dissolves nicely and comes loose from my online wholefood shop. Tea is from a specialist tea shop, not too expensive I might add but sells nice loose tea.

I feel instinctively that winter might be a bit difficult this year as russia is doing more than posturing now. I should think that gas pressure will get really low so could well be that gas boilers in general might not cope so well. We don`t have gas in our village and there will be no source of heat here if electric goes off so I have plan B, where we retreat into our tiny snug and body heat will keep us warm. What I am saying is that I would also have a plan B if I had gas as the pressure may well be so low that it won`t be very effective

I have a solid fuel fire in one room and an electric one in the other for those occasions the boiler won't power the CH. I have a couple of portable fan air heaters too which while not cheap to run they will keep the children warm.. and I have electric underfloor heating in the kitchen should it be required.. I have carefully thought out these things ;)

I need to get the drip bar sorted on the back door still and have rebooked the boiler repair for Thursday.. one of the valves has ceased so I cannot top up the water in the system so the pressure is too low to turn it on.. I tried testing it a couple of weeks ago.. this problem was supposed to have been fixed when it was last serviced.. I'm not impressed and will not be paying the excess charge they think I will!! I paid that last time! The clock doesn't work properly either I have to put it to the right time every few days.

Winter coats all sorted, just knitting woollies for everyone!

hot chocolate, now that is a good one to have in but I haven`t bought any yet as I cannot find any instants that are not loaded up with sugar or, even worse, horrible chemical nasties. Maybe I will try with my organic powdered milk and some grated plain chocolate. Cue to myself, hehe order some more chocolate

    Back again.

I made raw chocolate the other day using cacao liquor, which is just raw ground cacao beans. I also used grated cooked beetroot and it was the yummiest choc, I can`t remember the recipe. Maybe that liquor will work in drinks, another investigation coming up. If you don`t know me then I eat organic and wholefood when I can, so am unusual tbh

I bought some new thermal socks today as my others are well worn and destined for the bin soon. They were on offer in £stretcher 2 packs of mens thermals (3 or 4 pairs a pack I think) for £4 so I'm happy as I'll have toasty feet this winter :D I also picked up some more "cozy socks" from primarni while we were in there so along with my new slipper boots I should be okay at home and I can wear my hiking boots when I'm out and about :D Just waiting on the fingerless gloves to appear in the shops so I can replace the ones we have (had them about 7 years now and they're falling apart beyond repair now) and I should be sorted for this year. :D

As a side note I've also started buying the ingredients for making my Christmas cake using my nannas recipe. Its for an 8" round tin, so I split it between loaf tins as there's only the two of us. One is supposed to be for Christmas, the other DD takes for her lunch...only last year she ate all of it! This year I'm going to make 2 batches, and one of them is going to have some non-alcoholic mulled wine for the fruit to soak in as I had a spare bottle after giving it as gifts last year ;) Can't wait :D
