Hey everyone! I'm loving reading all your updates re winter prep. Unfortunately I can't contribute much this year as we're waiting to move house. After two years of renting and needing permission for changing anything etc.. I'm so excited to be getting our own owned home! What I'm trying to do is wash all duvets, bedding, curtains, blankets etc.. and pack them up. I'm also cleaning everything in sight ready for the move and dejunking the house. xx

    New list for 2014/2015

The winter prep list of Pigpen.

    1. Coats for everyone who needs them. B, D, M, J, A, F, P, GS1
    2. Shoes/Boots for everyone who needs them C, Da, M, J, A, F, E, De, GS1, GS2, GS3
    3. Get a little ahead with gas payments as my Dec bill comes Christmas week and cripples me every year.. I WILL be prepared this year!
    4. Kitchen 'stock up' list. Make sure we have lots of non-perishables in case it is too cold/snowy/etc to get to the supermarket.
    5. Medicine cabinet refilling. Cold/flu caps, calpol, calpol melts, ibuprofen, calprofen, anbesol, canesten, metanium, cough medicines, throat lozenges, lip balms.
    6. blinds up in kitchen .. finally!! the 3rd one was finished on 1st July 2014.. only took 3 years!!
    7. curtains.. french door, I have thin ones up but need something more substantial for freezing days!... shower curtain rings to put them up, so I can take them down more easily!! .. knew I'd had an idea for these when I found a pack the other day.. now, where did I put them??
    8. Draught snakes.. French doors, front door, back door.
    9. Service for electric fire in middle room.. it has been cutting out after half an hour or so.
    10. Car service & MOT.. December
    11. Car bits.. antifreeze spray, screen wash, blankets for tiddlies, spade, cardboard for traction.. it is also used to protect the carpet in the boot from muddy pushchair wheels!
    12. in the house activities for the children. I might actually have them doing stuff like stuffing draught snakes etc. I wonder if I can have them knitting squares so they can knit a blanket for themselves!!
    13. Replace drip thing on back door to stop rain sneaking in.

    14. New cat flap!!!

DD's waterproof jacket ordered for autumn, along with welly socks for DD and myself {why am I excited about this?!} they were reduced to £2.99 and £1.99.

Batten up in DD's room. Couldn't get curtain pole fixed in kitchen/porch as the only option is to secure it to the architrave, which isn't wide enough, will search for a narrower bracket.

I'm mostly replying because it cheers my heart to see the Black Country flag anywhere!

But, in terms of winter prep in our red brick end terrace, after being horribly stung by our inherited utilities company when we bought this house, log burner is half way to fitted. So freaking excited!

Your photo made me smile as our living room looks very similar with the flue hanging in the fire place. Unfortunately we don't have any thing to connect it to. I admit I didn't expect to get anywhere with this this year but a friend found somewhere selling suitable liners for 80% off!! and OH and next door fitted the liner, another good saving. Now frantically saving for a multi fule stove. I was thinking this project would take about 5 years to come to fruition, looks like it my be 1 1/2 - 2 years now :j

    Hmm. Bit jealous. <stamps feet>

I don't have a lot of prep to do really. I have a ridge tile my stepdad needs to sort, and i want to replace the window foam strips, which of course means removing the old lot (not looking forward to that job). But we have loads of power cut / keep warm supplies and are well insulated.

My back room has a large square bay, with French doors in the middle that currently only have vertical blinds. It can be a touch drafty so need to do something here. Considering a single long pole across the bay and some very big but lightweight thermal curtains. It's either that or I'd need 2 short pairs and one long pair, and all sorts of fixings. Decisions decisions.

I am down to my last box of tea bags  so need to stock the garage cupboard. I'll start in September as it's currently full of squash and other school holiday "necessities".

The kids have lots of clothes and I will raid granny's wellie box (she collects barely used wellies of various sizes for us from car boots and chazza shops) for the kiddies. They both have coats and the hat / glove box is overflowing. I had a new coat last winter too although I need to fix the tear inside the pocket.

I even have a couple of *cough* Christmas presents for the kiddies. Lego deals I've been watching on camelcamelcamel.

But I'm not done with summer yet (bring it back please!)
