Forgive me but aren't you just releasing the same dampness, ie the water collected, back into the home as you are drying it inside rather than actually pouring the water away or disposing of it?
I suppose this would work for a wardrobe or something but you would have to plug the thing in a well aired room so you weren't re-introducing the damp there.
I had a 10l electric dehumidifier and it did an amazing job of keeping the place very dry but the stupid thing no longer works  They are expensive but well worth it and I hope to replace mine before winter.0 -
Fruball - I do have a dehumidifier which I use downstairs in the winter when I can't get the washing dry. I can recharge them anywhere in the house so could easily bring them downstairs to charge again. Having ME, I spend a lot of time downstairs and certainly can't lug the electric dehumidifier up and down the stairs so I need the big one for the downstairs of the house.
Our house is pretty much open plan downstairs with a living room door which leads to the hallway. I keep that shut all the time as I don't like the cats and dogs going upstairs and it also helps keep the heat in downstairs.
I can't afford another £130 for a dehumidifier in our bedroom so hoping this is going to work.0 -

They are flipping heavy aren't they! Great for drying washing but yeah, I didn't take mine up and down stairs either.
I think, as long as they are dried out (plugged in) in a well aired space, they could work but not if you need to dry it out in the room you use it in, if that makes sense? Sorry, I wasn't criticising.
Hope they work - let us know how you get on0 -
I was looking to see if our coal merchants have a special summer rate. That would be a no. Still £10 for a 25kg bag. We have a grit bin we use for coal which holdsabout 100kg but keen to get more in. Feel more secure knowing that we have the coal all in before winter arrives.Sealed pot challenge member no 1057
No toiletries in 2011, well shampoo, toothpaste or deodurant!0 -
I know we are still in the middle of a heat wave but managed to get my very heavy tapestry style door curtain and matching hall window curtain washed and dried today so very pleased with that.
Going to try and get the living and dining room curtains washed this week :j0 -

I didn't take it as a criticism Fruball, it was a very good question, I am just weak and feeble! Lol0 -
We were given a whole mature silver birch tree last week, the guy had even sawn it into manageable sized blocks for us so He Who Knows is gradually splitting them to go into the woodstore to season for burning next year. I reckon we've about 4 years worth of logs in store now and we won't need to buy in any extra this year to top us up, good stuff eh?0

So glad I've found this thread again. I am already starting to make my list. I don't want to be rushing around in November still trying to sort things.
I'll be watching regarding the dehumidifiers. There is definitely a damp problem in the upstairs bathroom, even though there is a fan up there, so I may try these.Saving, decluttering and doing alright.:xmastree: :xmastree:0 -
Update on the wardrobe dehumidifiers.......they have been in for 2 weeks and seem to have collected lots of damp as the beads are now pink, they should be blue! Our room has velux windows in the main bedroom and the en-suite and these are constantly open at the moment along with the windows so not sure why there is so much damp in the wardrobes!
I think I will ask a builder to come out and check the external wall which the wardrobes are located on as I am sure there shouldn't be any damp at the moment!0 -

I think I need to let it be known locally that I'll take any wood that is going. Although maybe I should clear the pile on the patio first. Log stores are being built over the next couple of weeks so it should start to get easier...0
