Oh I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in being a hot bod.
Am also very lucky heating wise as live in first floor flat of a large block and so am surrounded on four sides by other flats. Mind the, because of the position of the block (on top of a cliff) we get fierce, howling, freezing winds.
My late DH was the opposite so I heated the rooms he used and opened French windows of my 'study'. I had a quilt on the bed but would kick it off in my sleep so he got double warmth, which suited him.:rotfl:Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -

I don't have the radiator on in our room but fortunately DH also likes the room cold but when he wants a little bit of warmth he switches his electric blanket on. I love nothing more than moving in bed and feeling a freezing cold pillow against my face, I think I might be a little bit odd?0 -

It's funny how some of us are warm blooded and some are cold. My DH was always too hot in his youth and I have always been cold.
As he has got older though he feels the cold more and is joining me under the huge duvet he has always cast off in the past. I have to have a blanket on my side as well now as I only have half the thickness of duvet I used to have.
Life can be very unfair.0 -

CONFUZZLED......i'm assuming they are water pipes you are talking about? I don't know what a "close' is so can't picture what you are meaning, but I do know that when I lived in my flat the girl upstairs had outside water pipe that burst the two last cold winters we have had. However they were on the outside of the building so no protection what-so-ever. Hers were plastic but I don't know if that makes a difference either. I guess bubble wrapping it certainly won't do any harm, but i'm no expert, and wouldn't even have thought about my outside tap if it hadn't been for this thread.
Actually I should probably go down and do my mum's soon. Not sure if she has ever done this..or has a proper cover, will have to check.
the close is the shared stair and hall area, it's unheated, narrow but quite tall and open and has a concrete floor and stairs, whilst they are technically inside it is just behind the close door (when it's open), they will get some heat from the shops on either side i suppose but i may just wrap them to be sure0 -
Or I think if you loosen the tap so it isn't quite dripping but not fully off, if it does freeze, there is space for the liquid to expand... Not 100% sure on that though.
when i went away for christmas of 2010 i left all my taps open, i turned them on, then turned til they were just dripping occassionally and watched til they stopped dripping, i was told this was enough and i did it for all of my taps and i'm so glad i did because when we got home, despite having left the heat on at about 16C or so (storage heaters, not running constantly!) the pipes were frozen!
the loo was ok but we couldn't get anything out of the taps so i just left them open, turned the heat up and they were ok the next morning after the house warmed up a bit more, leaving them open gives the air trapped inside somewhere to go rather than bursting the pipes0 -
Confuzzled
Stuff that runs under the pavement is generally OK, has it ever frozen before?
i don't know, the building has been here for some time the shop on the ground floor wasn't open but has recently and my flat and the one next to me (each flat is spread over the 1st and 2nd floor of the building) are new builds, thus why i know for certain the pipes go under the pavement as there was a huge push to get the council to get the flats connected so we could move in and i was there handing lease stuff with the letting agent the day they were doing it0 -
no - - me too - not quite a single sheet but there is no way I'd get to sleep with socks on - it's impossible - I need to stick my feet out of the bed to cool down throughout the night! and the room has to be very cool, 15 or below otherwise I am too hot. If I wrapped up the way some people do I'd never sleep and be a very grumpy lobby. saves on heating!
i'm like that too, i like a cool bedroom and i only wear socks if it's REALLY cold as i know i will fight to push them off after an hour or so under the duvet
i still have my summer duvet on but i have been occasionally tossing my favourite fleece blanket across the top half of the bed before going to sleep though it tends to wind up on the floor
wish i ran that hot during the day but sadly i don't so now my heavy dressing gown and slipper boots are a permanent fixture as is my downstairs heavy fleece blanket :rotfl:0
