Autumn/Winter used to be my favourite time of year because I would snuggle up with the fire and candles lit, eat naughty hot puddings and knit in front of telly; but this last winter was horrendous. I have never suffered from winter blues until this year and I'm dreading it happening again. Is there a way to avoid it? Do I need to get maximum sunshine during summer to boost my vitamin D level, or are there any supplement that I can build up my body with before winter comes?
Sometimes just getting out of the house helps. Walk the dog or borrow one to walk.
You are right though, winter has been so long! The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I am washing a duvet in my machine today. Freshening it up after winter. It will be going on the line and benefiting from the sun and wind. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0

Today, I did the first batch of paper logs from our shredded paperwork and newspapers. We are planning to store them in the garage until the autumn. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -
We started making our paper logs a couple of days ago....target is 500!
Hopefully we will be getting some warmer, drier days so they can be put outside to dry.
Waiting for summer price drop on wood to stock up.0 -
1st May 11pm sat here with the heating on and the fire, slippers and a blanket .. regretting taking down the front door curtain to wash!
What's it like?!
My tulips never got anywhere near to bloom this year and half my daffs were just leaves. My 2 £7 fuschia bushes are just twigs showing no sign of life.
Had some sun yesterday so got my daughter out in the garden to get some sun on her. I had bought sun cream but decided that one day of sun would be better than trying to cover her up.
Long time no post, hope everyone is doing fine x1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
After a lifetime of getting up early to go to work I've just realised that I can stay in bed a bit longer, staying warm and not using as many lights during this cold weather. I know it's silly but we weren't ever allowed a lie-in and had to be up and dressed 'in case anyone called'! Maybe this is the start of bad habits, but I don't think so as I love to be up before everyone else. Strange, I know...:o Feel a bit uncomfortable, but justifying lie-in by checking emails from my laptop!
Another thing that might be obvious to others is that I've decided to leave curtains closed upstairs during this very cold spell is to help conserve any heat there. I reckon that most days I only go in there to open the curtains!
Keep warm and safe everyone
Lately through the winter/spring!, me and my daughters routine has been I bring her breakfast up to her warm west bedroom and she plays in her bedroom till nearly dinner time. By the time she's had her breakfast and we've chatted nearly 2 hours have passed and I've not had to put any heating on.
Alternative is we go downstairs like normal people and put the heating on for an extra 3-4 hours a day and be cold in a east facing room. She likes our arangement better as it means she can play with her toys in her bedroom comfortably.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
I just want to second the Lidls brushed cotton sheets. i got one for my daughter (purply pink) and its great quality and she's been snug as a bug. Wish I had bought myself one, one for the list for next winter!1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

Get a daylight box like this one or daylight bulbs. I use mine all year round and find them very effective.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Another pair who've started making paper logs, we dry them in the polytunnel and it takes a week to 10 days at this time of year, forget the saying make hay while the sun shines, substitute LOGS!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0
