Broadband speed

Options
Hi & good evening all,
I'm Victor & reside in Shropshire.
My question is: I have just Joined Orange Home broadband, I know the router has to be left on for the next ten day's so as to get the best speed for my line.
Is it normal at this early stage to have weird things happening, like watching sky go is perfect but sometimes just trying to open my emails and web page is impossible, then suddenly all is good.
At the moment I am trying to download a little program of just over 11mb, so far it's taken 1hour 30 mins with about 30 mins to go.
So is this to be expected?.
My stats are saying upstream 3927kbps
downstream 864kbps
TIA
Victor

Are you connecting by ethernet or by wireless?
If the latter, retest using ethernet from the master socket's test socket.

If the problem then goes away, change your wireless channel.

  • In the first 10 days the speed will fluctuate to give you the best possible speed your line can handle. So it's normal to drop and rise.
  • Hi All.
Well I wish I had not joined Orange, what a pity I have to wait twelve months before I can cancel.
The internet net is absolutely rubbish, around 1700 hrs it is even worse, and yes I have contacted the help line twice, I may well not have, for the help they were.
The speed is not the same day to day,
Although it is showing and connected it was over a minute to load just Google, and the help desk said because the web page had loaded he said ok you are now connect, that was it, so the second call they asked a few questions and then did a line test, took my mobile number, that was the last I heard from him, not even a courtesy call back to see if every thing was ok.
So can't wait for the contract to finish, before I cancel.
    One unhappy Orange customer.

  • If it gets worse around 17:00hrs, could be contention issues, too many people, not enough capacity. As Orange BB use BT Wholesale equipment, it might not be any better with any other ISP.
All may not be lost, Orange (aka Everything Everywhere - EE) are rolling out FTTC and no doubt you'd be able to upgrade if/ when it becomes available in your area.
