Didn't really know where to ask this. I am wanting to make a pink cake, I have been looking around google and people say to use a white cake mix and add red colouring. Does anyone know a recipe for white cake mix?

I think white cake mix might refer to a packet mix?
I looked for food colourings on MySupermarket the other day, and the generic Asda products are 2 fir £1.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Isn't that just a normal Victoria sponge mix? I would make a standard sponge and add colouring0

You can make 'white cake' it normally uses egg whites only to keep the white colour
although there is a white cake recipe here that looks pretty easy

I find when making a pink cake it's just as easy to make a 'normal' sponge cake and just colour it with pink colouring.0 -
Just make a bog standard sponge cake (or use a packet mix if you want) and add red food colouring. The main thing to remember is that most cakes will bake a little darker than they look raw, so if you want pink rather than red go a bit easy with the colouring.
White cake mix is an American thing, I think.0 -

Thanks I will probably just follow this recipe, although can't see the difference between this and other cake recipes.
Might have to do a practice tomorrow, it's been a long time since I've made a cake0 -

While the recipe calls itself a white cake it doesn't read as I would expect it to. A white cake uses more eggs but not the egg yolks!

Thanks I have now got a recipe using egg whites but realised I haven't got any round cake tins. What is the standard size? It has to be at least 7.5inches wide for a decoration I bought from ebay but how deep should it be? And do I need 2 of can I cook one layer at a time?0

I usually cut mine in half, but if you don't trust yourself then cook one layer at a time if you only have one tin. Standard size is 7/8 inches, measure in the shop to be sure as they all seem to list in cm now.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

this cake is yummy - the pink comes from strawberries not a bottle so it tastes of summer rather than e124People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I just made a test cake and it came out a really weird bluey grey colour, so I tried again without egg yolks and the same thing. The problem is the butter making the batter too yellow.
Is there a white alternative I can use? Sorry I don't know muck about baking.0
