Ring around a few places and get quotes for both jobs.

A £15 (£11 + £4 delivery) scanner would give you more of a clue whether the engine management light diagnosis is correct, probably won't help with the clutch diagnosis.

Did both these problems start at the same time?

clutch was shortly after the engine warning light.

not sure if they are linked or not.

yeah with rac. I need to keep driving it to get to uni/work. Going to get it fixed asap but obviously cost has to come into it.

would that invalidate the rac policy?
  • If the cats broke down and is blocking the exhaust it may feel like the cars vibrating more as its running crap?

I've got a ODB scanner and its great, diagnosed p0420 on a fiesta a catalytic fault although i tried a new sensor first from a friend but had no luck, replaced the cat and all is well.

Was looking at local garages, problem is I don't know anyone in this area so don't know if they are good or not!

Simple answer to that = drive down taxi rank, ask driver of 4-5ish year old car where they go.

If I'm on, I'll recommend one local dealer all the time, as they've done almost every taxi in the town for the best part of 10 years. You'll often see black Galaxies/Skodas (our company fleet) popping in/out.

    Thank you :)

    I will try that.

Thank you all by the way, you've really helped me :money:
  • If cost comes into it are you waiting for the current fault to cause more problems so you get a bill for £1000 instead of £200?

Or waiting for it to fail with a bolt of lightening and a ball of fire and brimstone?
