as long as we have a sub section for all the other comps

twitter
rafflecopter/blog

I do think it would be a good idea to have sub-sections for things like:
-Facebook
-Email
-Twitter
Purely because I'm too lazy to open/log in to email account every time I come across one similarly to FB rather do all the comps while I'm on there0 -
You don't have to put your life history on full view. You can put as much or as little as you like on Facebook.
I think as long as it's stated in the subject line of a comp listing I'm happy to be without lots of subsections to check
May you all have lots of luck, Emma xx0 -
Sub sections may seem a good idea but I personally don't think they are needed. The majority of comps now have whether it's FB/Twitter etc in their title (Actually, getting that to become a vast majority is an idea...) and for those which don't mention it there's now the X button to remind you you aren't interested if it gets bumped along.
I'm like the OP, I don't FB but I don't feel I'm wasting much time scrolling thru the comp list and Xing the ones which don't say FB in the title but are actually FB. I do date by time posted minus 24 hours though, maybe it's an issue for end daters or other methods.Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

You completely miss the point there.
Have a look at all the FB and twitter comps that get posted here with a very short time span...maybe 1st 500 likes or followers etc. this forum as it is hides those neatly away on the next page as threads are added for other comps which are much less urgent...so by the time anyone sees the time sensitive ones they are over.
I have always said FB is going to be the main source of comps eventually and now it just about is. Conpanies can set them up so fast on there it's obviously the way to go, and they reach such a lot of people..which is a bad thing for us except these newer companies with low numbers of fans where we get 1st dibs and good odds....OR WE WOULD IF WE SAW THEM IN TIME...which we don't always right now.
Twitter comps are massively biased to day long comps or less...so losing them among other long term comps is stupidity. No way most people will see them in time to enter from here. Often the best prizes are given when a page is new and looking to build followers...so miss that and you missed the only chance really. Many don't repeat comps when they have hit their targets as they are smallish firms like solicitors etc.
I'm going to say this once more...sick of saying it really niw...this Xmas is going to be massive on social media sites.
Said it the last few years ..it's grown as it oibviously was going to do until around now is the best time for us ..loads of companies but not yet the masses of people involved. Once they all have tens of thousands of people as fans and followers they won't need to buy them with comps anymore....some will, but their aim is promotion now to please compers
FB and twitter are the fastest way to enter a great many good quality comps with very few problems and a way to feedback when things aren't right....of course they should have their own section.
Postal and text comps ...how many people enter those in comparison? Stuck int he stone age this place is...seriously.
I don't much expect any change...and I could care less for myself as I and my friends do fine and help each other to win some nice stuff already. The people not getting a chance or poopooing FB like it's voodoo waiting to steal their souls concern me though. I feel sorry for them.
So far this year FB has provided me with 2 iPads, a 50 inch telly, a 5k diamond, an ultrabook, a 500 quid light shade and stuff like that.....and it's caused me no problems at all. None of those comps came from MSE because MSE doesn't do it well enough ATM.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. People commenting about FB and twitter here are a bit like me jumping into the knitting threads and giving an opinionand recommendations...pointless, I don't knit and have no interest or input to give to improve anything there. What happens there doesn't impact on me at all either. So I'd do better leaving it to the people involved with knowledge of the subject who it effects.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I don't care what you've won in this year young Timothy. I don't take too much to braggers as it is. I don't know if you thought I was meant to go 'Oh wowwww' and bend over backwards to get into your lil FB knitting club, but nopers, not gonna happen
Your speech started off ok, but then it dropped off into a self proclaimed 'Look at me and how good I am' which completely devalued your points you were making.
Social Media will and probably is becoming the best way to present competitions I agree. However, if postal/texts entries were really that low, would they still be going now?
One branch does not a tree make and MSE is quite a large tree, people need to remember this. It's not a dedicated site like Prizefinder or Loquax or whatever. The MSE team prolly feel that what here is good enough at the moment. If you don't like it, and it's quite clear you don't, then seriously, why are you here?Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

Whilst we are not likely to get a subsection for twitter competitions (we have tried in the past), there could simply be a thread similar to this one in compers chat corner, or for example in regular competitions (which would not even need to be a sticky, because it would be bumped so frequently anway), where we could paste just the link to the twitter page of any company running a comp ending that day. So if for example I were to start a post heading September Twitter Quick Response comps, other people could reply to it with just a link to any comps they come across. Then someone else could start a similar thread for October.
Another idea that I was party to a discussion on the old comps discussion thread in the past was that we had a hashtag that we could search for on twitter. So for example if I found a good new comp on twitter ending that day I could simply tweet "#flashcomp @abcdefg" or "#msefriends checkout @zzzzzzco"
That idea got nowhere though :rotfl:0 -

I just stated facts, and anyone who knows me will know that was an example of what is easily possible, not a list to impress anyone (I can't hope to impress most people here with prizes anyway, they won much more than I and even have them in their sigs..wow that's bigheaded eh? :rotfl:) ...we're here to win stuff, and a lot of people seem to assume that FB and twitter comps have trivial prizes which is far from true.
MSE is lines of code, it's not a bricks and mortar job to add a small subsection ...it's a big forum, I've been here a while ..(I've more than likely been on this planet a good few more years than you too so drop the cheeky and be polite as the MSE rules state might be a plan for you?).
I have an interest in MSE and this section serving the people who use it as well as it can, and have already listed the reasons why I think (from experience) this would improve the forum a little. It would make very little difference to those who don't do the social media comps , so I have to ask why are YOU here, just to pick a fight and insult people? Pathetic behaviour if that's all.
At the end of the day I have an interest and enter social media comps, care to explain why you feel the need to put an oar in?
Seems to me that it's of no concern yo those who don't sue FB or the other similar sites?
Some people dislike change, sometimes they are right to be nervous about it...but considered changes are the way we all move forward.
I laughed when I read that sig BTW, not often you see someone who actually revels in being deliberately irritating)

A much better post, Timothy.
You weren't alone in stating facts in this debate, if you knew me you would know that I really don't care for other people's prize trails, just my ownwhich is doing very nicely, thank you for asking. I also don't care for point gaining thanking but that's a debate for another time.We are certainly all in this branch of the forum to win things, don't get me wrong, there wouldn't be much point in being here, other to fantasy shop.
It might possibly be an issue that some some people think Twitter and FB offer low/value prizes or find it difficult to start up and get going. The problem I originally had was your blase assumption that me not using FB for comping was because I was technologically backward. But then as you stated a couple posts up, I shouldn't even comment about FB because apparently 'I have no input or interest' In that case I apologise for offering up what I thought was a valid opinion but in your eyes, 'pointless'.
I'm certainly not doubting the fact you'll have been here longer than me and probably on the planet too, I am but a mere whippersnapper after all but the way I write is the way I am. As my sig states, deal with it, accommodate it, or move on, I won't mind either way. If me running around kissing your behind and agreeing with every single thing you say is less cheeky and more polite for you then you might just have to report me because it isn't happening.
Going back to your interest in MSE and this section of it, what exactly would be your idea to make the place more... comper-friendly and winnable? What would be your entire pitch? I only ask because I can't see the reasons list on this thread here and I'm not one to go trawling through your posting history, I'm merely curious as to why certainly your social media sections idea hasn't been implemented yet. If it's the case of you not pitching the idea to the dev team, why not?
Why am I here? I started off in DFW, became debt free, stayed debt free (pretty much), looked at the Boost Your Income page, did some working from home as well as work, dropped that after 18 months or so, saw the Comping suggestion, but decided I'd treat it as a hobby as opposed to a career or a friendship club. To paraphrase (possibly the wrong word) Jambodave, Anything I win is a nice bonus, regardless of size or value. I'm certainly not here to make friends or join cliques or certainly to pick fights. I have opinions, and I'm strong with them, much like yourself I imagine.
As for putting an oar in, the OP asked a question and I gave an opinion. It just turns out it wasn't one you liked and so this debate raged. You are pretty much stating that I have no opinion here at all, certainly not in this thread but you come across like I shouldn't have an opinion forum-wide. Far be it for me to preach from your songsheet but not only is that a little bit rude, I find it quite offensive. Especially as I use Twitter for comping, or does that not come under your simliar social media sites?
People don't like change at all, whether it's massive or minute. Once they're in their comfort zone that will be all they require. I can cope with change, as the old adage goes, you'll only live once. I could deal with everything in sections, but as per my initial opinion, at first thought I don't see much need.
It makes me smile that you giggled at my sig, but it's a shame you see me as an irritant(!). Maybe I should change it to a win list, but I don't think I could be that big headed again...Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...
