The OP didnt the registration details in black and white until after delivery (I assume). and as soon as they realised they tried to rectify it, with the dealer saying its a mistake that we made but we wont put right

It's more/less impossible to re-register a car to make it newer than it is.

A dealer can't guarantee a delivery time, nor can they guarantee a specification. I'll dig the relevant court case out later, although maybe Sgt Pepper has the details to hand.

  • Thank you for the advice. I have got the order form out and my private plate number is on it but no registration date - the space was left blank. The finance contract starts from 1 September, my deposit was dated 1 September (62 plate) but our copy of the "Confirmation of Registration Details" (which is not signed) says 31 August: 12 plate.

Is this on a piece of paper you had before picking up the car?

  • Hi. I am happy to report that after getting Trading Standards involved & threatening to go to Citroen Head Office with our complaint, the garage have organised a full refund with no argument. We are buying a car with another garage. So great result. Thank you to everyone for your valuable advice.

A typical salesperson's trick this OP. They registered it in August so it would count towards the cars they've sold that month..

I used to work at car dealerships, they often register cars and just put them on the demo fleet again just to get sales numbers up. Is there anyway you can pull out of the deal, your car is instantly six months older now opposed to being six months newer if it was registered the day after!

The dealership could have gone through a process with the local license office and cancelled the registration due to the circumstances . I have done it a number of times in the past when errors have occurred .
What may well have happened with the registration is that a number of vehicles where pre registered on 31st Aug to meet sales/bonus targets .
More than likely their was an error by whoever in admin did the AFRL registrations as the dealer gained nothing from your individual car only the total number .
Cockup rather than conspiracy .Salesman will get nothing out of it MD or Sales Directer may lose an exotic holiday if the bonus target is down by 1 .
