The PC is not recognising any 2.0 ports when I do a search and every time I plug something in i get the message saying that this device will run better if a USB 2.0 port is used.

I will strip the cabinet tomorrow and have a look at the card that is installed.

if all the drivers are installed, device manager should tell you what is installed, usb 2.0 cards will appear as enhanced.

    Hi
I have an older PC and it only has USB1.1 ports, is it possible to upgrade them to 2.0 or even 3.0 without having to upgrade everything else?
Can I just buy the ports and plug them in to the same slots on the existing motherboard?

My PC was hand built about 6 years ago and I have no issues with it otherwise. Sadly I don't have details of the name or type of motherboard without stripping the box to have a look.

You don't need to strip anything, CPU-Z will tell you all that you need to know. Are you running XP with SP3?

You mean 2.0 devices; it'll hopefully recognize the ports, when you install them :)

This message is so, so annoying on one PC that I've had for 9 years. Is there no way of switching it off?

Yes you can, assuming you are on XP? Look here, hope that helps?

  • Definitely recommend a USB 2.0 interface card as you'd need your PC to support a USB 2.0 hub feature to get full benefit of USB 2.0 devices.

(I was lucky and specified USB 2 ports on my Athlon64 system when I ordered it 8 years ago, and have 4 USB 1.1 ports and 4 USB 2 ports on it.)
