Brontok Worm on my comp

I have the Brontok worm on my comp. It flashes up on the screen without warning which means I have to close down IE and start again. I've googled it and apparantly I must have got it from an email I've also searched for it in all my files and folders and found a file called Brontok on my computer. Can I just delete this or would it harm the comp?

I found a Hot Fix on Google to get rid of it but every time I try to download it my comp switches itself off.

Please excuse me, I'm not the most technically minded person around.

If anyone can help I would be very happy and all helpful posts will be thanked.

Do you have any resident AV scanner on your PC?

Be careful what you click on, as the virus icon looks like a folder icon

Whenever I try to do anything to do with scanning for virusses or deleting virusses my computer switches itself off. I think it's part and parcel of the virus.

Thanks so far it hasn't happened yet since I did the bitdefender one. But I've probably spoken too soon.

try start, run, regedit.

if it fails, you are still infected.

I did speak too soon, it came back.

I had installed AVG 7. It won't let me run the programme now.

This virus isn't bothering me at all but I'm just worried incase it balls ups the comp in the long run.
