  • I think the majority of the time you have to pay people to take them away!
The local council run tip will normally accept.

    Or try Freecycle.

Nearly everyone has a mahoosive plasma or LCD TV now so old CRT's are basically not as wanted now.The are some places that will take them in part exchange for a new one,but not many.Sometimes Tescos' will do trade in's.
Best bet would be freecycle or gum tree.,although I did see a request on freecycle the other week for a 40in plasma or LCD & requests for these are increasing.

I've recently Freegled (more used than Freecycle in my area) 3 CRT analogue TVs - a 32" (16:9), a 26" (4:3) and a 14" (4:3) so I know people still want them for use with either a Sky, Freesat or Freeview set top box.

Having said that, the 14" didn't attract any replies so I put it on Ebay for £0.01 (collection only) - and, to my astonishment, it sold for £3.00!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

TV's with analogue tuners only are really worth nothing (but are useful for those who do not want a TV licence). I took 3 to my local tip for electrical goods recycling.

I gave mine to the nursing home my grandma was in. They just used a freeview box with it.
  • The British Heart Foundation's furniture shops are still selling the old CRT TVs.

They collected my very heavy CRT and sold it very quickly for a decent price. With Gift Aid they made a bit more from it.

That's nonsense, analogue tuners can easily be circumvented by plugging in a digital set top box. Why would people without a TV license be therefore able to (legally) use them?

    With a DVD player connected?
