According to your figures, I make it equivalent to £13.65/month currently, presumably still using BT for calls?

How much are you paying in total to BT and Virgin

Their prices are all over the place, I presume you were paying 19.99, and the extra 2.36 is down to the vat increase, and the £2 increase from april?

The only way to get a good deal nowadays, is to carefully look whats out there, for less money, and include cashback deals, then ring virgin, go straight through to the "I want to leave number", and say what can you do, then wait for an answer, I can get the same for £xx less here, with a new router, can you match or better it. The deals are all intentionally difficult to compare like for like, but as a guide if you are paying more than £20/month in total for unlimited broadband, line rental and free evening and weekend calls all combined, there is room for negotiation or savings.

sky unlimited is £7.50, talk talk £3.25/month a good starting point for haggling (even if you don't have sky, your isp won't know this)

These are the current "advertised" prices, with a yes/no box to take off the phone option

    (advertised prices before negotiation)

Virgin uses googlemail nowadays, so you may as well migrate to them gradually to make isp switching easier.

  • It may be worth checking-out what the Post Office has to offer regarding 'phone line or/and broadband. Their contract is a year, broadband. Also, it may be worth negotiating costs. Also, it is worth looking at their current offers (for example, I was offered £50 discount - which includes VAT) at the beginning of this year as a PO 'phone user - to have broadband installed -which I accepted. However, the same offer was made for any 'phone users who were not Post Office users, just for subscribing to their 'phone network.

I have found them reasonably priced and cost effective. Plus, if you and your friends /family join the Post Office 'phone calls are free anytime to each other (or they were)! Also, if you join the Post Office, and you need to 'phone their 0845 number, it is either free or local rate cost.

Please check-out what I am saying first. And also beware (I am not sure whether it is Virgin or Talk Talk) will keep your landline number if you decide to replace users!!!

    Good Luck.

I currently pay VM 22.35 to reduce to 18.65 for 6months plus an extra 30.00p one off credit

BT to charge 13.65 p.month after 6 months

One other thing is at present I have two lines as one has a DAX on it so broadband on the other - BT say they will remove the DAX and put the broadband on the DAX line so I could get rid of the other line.

What is the sync speed on your router?

Can't really compare costs without looking at the phone/line rental costs too, but my guess is you may be able to shave more off the virgin price with haggling, or haggle again in 6 months time. That's equivalent to £13.65/month (for the next 6 months), not £10?

Bt line rental paid upfront a year in advance, with free evening and weekend calls at no extra cost is £10.75

So currently that's at least £24.40/pm for both phone and BB, and more if you haven't paid upfront for line rental, and got the free E&W calls with BT.

Helps if you are in a LLU exchange, is there no LLU at all in your exchange?

http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/broadband/essentials (could be £12.75 for both BB + phone)

http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-unlimited/ (£19.50 for both without sky tv)

    http://www.o2.co.uk/broadband

    https://broadband.orange.co.uk/home (18.50 for both, ignoring vouchers/cashback)

    http://www.tescobroadband.com/tesco-broadband/broadband-only.aspx (£16.25 for both)
