I have also been contacted by Avacade and am concerned that there is a lot of reference to this being a scam. I have to be honest, I did have concerns initially about being contacted, however after taking advantage of their noobligation service, I have found the experience very useful.
The use of a courier was for my protection as ID had to be provided to chase my pension information and to quite honest I am glad they took my security as seriously as they did.
At no point did I get given advice but I did get provided with a free pension report, showing how my dormant pensions had performed over the last few years and if honest it wasn't pleasant reading as most of them had lost money..... They guided me through my options and left me to decide what I did next.
I am now waiting for my next update and so far am pleased with how they have handled my queries.

  • newbie first post = Avacade?
  • Avacade called my mobile and asked to speak to my wife. She was not available and I asked how they could have called my mobile and asked for my wife without getting their facts right. They wanted to end the call so i asked them who they were. They told me that they were Avacade but under the data protection Act could not tell me the nature of their business. I asked them to explain teh nature of their business as I tried to get on teh internet to check them out. They refused to explain the nature of their business and had no explanation for calling my wife on my phone. They could not get off the phone quick enough. Don't touch these people. They are not registered with the FSA and those companies who are do not make cold calls.
  • I had a call from Avacade yesterday. Asked for me by my full first name which I don't like and never use and when I asked how they had got my details they said I'd entered a competition or filled out a form requesting free pension advice. I told them I would never have completed such a form with that name but they were insistent I had but couldn't provide any more details. All very fishy and when I told them I actually use a local financial adviser for pension advice and suggested they contact him they put the phone down on me.
I wouldn't touch this company with a barge pole!

You just fear that come April next year these scammers will be rampant. A lot more pensioners are going to end up in tears.

I also received a phone call like the one you had, I was interested but with it being a details over the phone call I was put off by the whole thing. A couple of days later I decided to look for a company to do it myself.
I come across A Class Options, I submitted my contact information on their website and they called me back within the hour. I have since then had my review and found out a few things I didn’t know about. If anyone is interested in a review I advise you do the same as me and look for someone to do it, rather than have a company cold call you as you never know who you may be speaking to.
I would recommend the company I went with for the simple fact I didn’t pay a penny and they done just as they said they would.

Please do not use the company in this post. They are not advisers and not lawfully allowed to do what they are saying. I suspect this poster is not a real client but linked to the company as the company is a marketing company who sell your details to regulated companies to give advice. They are now allowed to do the review themselves.

If you want real advice then use a real adviser. https://www.unbiased.co.uk is the main UK database.

If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Have just been cold called by The Pension Report Service on my husband's mobile about my frozen pension.
Well, my pensions are all alive and well and set up by my husband who is an IFA. Apparently I have 'been online in the last few weeks and filled out a competition or survey and ticked a box asking for a pension review'.
    Really?
Why would I do that and then give them my husband's mobile?
They were adamant that they were correct.
Their website says that they will put people in touch with FCA approved IFA's. I presume these are the type of leads that we (as an IFA) are frequently being offered for sale.
The whole thing stinks and is so unethical. No wonder the industry has such a bad name.
Be very aware of such cold calls. The FCA new charging guidelines are very clear about fair fee charging so I'm afraid you won't get something for nothing. Just find yourself an IFA who is clear and upfront about what you will get and what it will cost. Less tears at bedtime...
