It was just the room that the boiler is in a few months ago- put it on the first time tonight and the back of the house STINKS.
Had to move out of the sitting room because I could smell it! It's in my room too so going to have sleep with the window open tonight obviously!
My parent's aren't bothered about it- but surely it is a sign something is wrong?

If I were you I'd urge on the side of caution and get this checked out ASAP and not use the boiler until you have done so.
Now's a good time of year for an annual service anyway so you could kill two birds with one stone.0 -
Yeah you definitely need a service i had a problem with my boiler and it stank! so i rang my landlord and he got someone from gassafetylandlords to come in turns out i had a problem with the internal pipe. I know the smell isnt pleasant lol i dont know how your parents can stand it i told my husband i was moving rooms to the other side of the house until it was fixed. Is a ghastly smell indeed. i only paid 62.50 for mine good luck x0

1) oil leak?
2) boiler in need of urgent service
Have you got a CO detector? If not, get one - CO kills.0 -
It sounds as though you've got an oil leak from the boiler.
Switch off the fuel valve at your oil tank. Try and establish how much oil you've lost and where it's gone (is it all inside the house, or is some outside) Contact your local Environmental Health department and take advice from them from a public health and contaminated land aspect. You'll also need to contact your home insurance company to let them know.
Depending on the extent of the oil spill and where it's gone to (if it's into the solum etc) you may need to move out of the house until the problem is sorted and remedial works have been undertaken.
In the meantime, keep your property well ventilated, if you start to feel nauseous, suffer a sore head or skin rashes contact your GP. The kerosene vapour can impact on your health.
You'll also find that soft furnishings (curtains, carpets, blinds, bedding and fabric chairs and sofas) as well as clothing can absorb the oil vapour and be tainted with an oily odour.
Hope it goes okay!0
